2013-14 (Sophomore Season): Earned his first career All-American award with a sixth-place finish on high bar at the NCAA championships … tallied a personal-best 14.950 to finish third on rings in Ohio State’s tri-meet victory over No. 1 Oklahoma and Temple; also placed second on high bar … posted a career-best 15.450 to win the high bar at No. 2 Michigan … scored a personal-best 15.200 in the floor exercise to finish third overall at the Arnold Challenge.
2012-13 (Freshman Season): Competed in six meets for the Buckeyes … opened his collegiate career on rings and high bar against Michigan (Feb. 16) … followed that meet with a first-place finish on high bar (15.20), second-place finish on parallel bars (14.35) and 10th-place finish on rings against Illinois (Feb. 23) … placed first on high bar (15.05) and fourth on parallel bars (14.10) against UIC March 9 … placed 10th overall in the second session at the NCAA Qualifier April 19 with a 14.20 … posted a 14.20 on high bar at the NCAA Team Finals April 20.
Prior to Ohio State: Trained and competed an as all-around gymnast with the OSU Boys Club under coach DeRon McIntyre… Region 5 team member (2010-11) … earned Top 10 finishes at the VISA Championships (2010-11) … finished in second place on floor exercise at VISA Championships (2010) … Region 5 Champion and Ohio State Champion (2010).
Personal: Son of Rich and Jill Johnson … has two siblings, Kayla and Kristin … plans to be a pediatric nurse practitioner after completion of undergraduate studies … lists greatest sports thrill as getting ready to mount the equipment knowing that he’s trained for that moment and it all comes down to the performance.
