COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2023 Ohio State Men’s Volleyball season officially gets underway Jan. 5 vs. Central State (7 p.m.) at the Covelli Center in Columbus. That contest is the first of 14 home games this season for the Buckeyes.
Fans can get an early look at the Buckeyes Oct. 29 when Ohio State welcomes Charleston and Ball State for a fall tournament at the Covelli Center. Competition begins at 10 a.m.
In nonconference competition, Ohio State travels to Fairfax, Virginia, site of the 2023 NCAA Championships, to face Grand Canyon and George Mason Jan. 14-15.
Long Beach State and Princeton venture to Columbus for matches Jan. 26-27 at Covelli. The following weekend, Ohio State travels to State College, Pennsylvania, to face USC and UCLA Feb. 3-4.
Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association competitions opens in Columbus when McKendree provides the competition Feb. 9.
In the middle of MIVA play, the Buckeyes take a trip west for a pair of games against BYU March 10-11 in Provo, Utah.
The MIVA Tournament opens with quarterfinal action April 15. The NCAA Championships begin April 30.
Ohio State finished the 2022 season 13-14 overall with a 7-7 record in MIVA play.
The 2023 campaign will be the fourth for Kevin Burch, head coach of the Buckeyes.
Ohio State returns 2022 First Team All-MIVA honoree, Jacob Pasture, a junior from Westminster, Maryland, along with Samuel Clark, a senior from Baltimore, Maryland, who earned second team honors a year ago.
Newcomers include a freshman class with four VolleyballMag Top 50 players. Shane Wetzel, a 6-6 right-side hitter, was tabbed the No. 4 recruit with Dan Hurley (6-8, OH, Virginia Beach, Va.), Jack O’Riordan (6-7, OH-RS, Barrington, Ill.) and Niko Williams (6-6, S, Poway, Calif.) rounding out the list.
