After completing an undefeated regular season, Ohio State pistol capped off the season with a national championship, capturing the crown in both the Open and Women’s competitions.

The Buckeyes now have six Open team titles (2000, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021) and six Women’s team titles (2000, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2017, 2021).

Jack Leverett, a freshman on the men’s pistol team, won the Open individual title, placing first in both air pistol and standard pistol. For the women, sophomore Katelyn Abeln won the Women’s individual title, placing first in sport pistol in both the Open and Women’s competitions.

Head coach Emil Meliv has made quite an impact on the program since being named to the position in September 2017. The Buckeyes earned a national team title that season at the 2018 Intercollegiate Pistol Championships, finished second overall at the 2019 Intercollegiate Pistol Championships, have put together two undefeated Open competition slates (2017-18, 2020-21), and a flawless head-to-head mark (18-0) in 2019-20 prior to the cancellation of the ’20 Intercollegiate Pistol Championships.
