COLUMBUS, Ohio – Parnell Hegngi earns his first career Big Ten weekly accolade after collecting Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors Monday. The Silver Spring, Md., native scored his first two career goals as a Buckeye, helping lead the team to a pair of wins and the Wolstein Classic tournament title.
Against FIU Friday, a 3-1 OSU win, the senior midfielder scored the game-winner in the 41st minute. He then tallied a pair of assists, including one on the GWG, and the fourth and final goal in the Scarlet and Gray’s 4-2 victory vs. Stetson Sunday. He earned Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team honors for his efforts.
This is the first offensive POW honor for Ohio State since Austin McAnena on Oct. 4, 2010.
Hegngi shares the honor with Indiana’s Eriq Zavaleta, who also had six points on the weekend. Tyler Miller, from Northwestern, was named the defensive player of the week after securing his first career shutout in goal vs. No. 7 California.
