COLUMBUS, Ohio – Graduate student Lexie Handley struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits as Ohio State (1-0) opened its 2022 season with an 8-1 win over Northern Illinois (0-1) on Friday morning at the FAU First Pitch Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Short Story
While Handley provided the pitching, a four-run first inning proved to be more than enough offense. The Buckeyes plated those four runs on three doubles, added two more runs in the second inning and then got a pinch-hit two-run home run in the top of the seventh off the bat of Taylor Heckman.
Six different players recorded hits, including two apiece from freshman Melina Wilkison and senior Meggie Otte.
How the Runs Were Scored
