
No. 6 Buckeyes Host Top 20 Foes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team will host two matches in the next four days, as it takes on No. 20 Arizona State at 11 a.m. Sunday and No. 10 NC State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Both matches will be played inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus. Admission and parking are free. Video and live scoring will be available HERE.
In the Rankings
- The Buckeyes moved up to No. 6 (tied) in the ITA Women’s Top 25 poll released Wednesday.
- Singles and doubles rankings were updated last week.
- In singles, Sydni Ratliff is No. 17, Irina Cantos Siemers is No. 23 and Shelly Bereznyak entered the rankings for the first time at No. 105. In doubles, Ratliff and Cantos Siemers are No. 37.
Buckeye This and That
- The Buckeyes are 6-2 this season and coming off a 1-2 trip to ITA National Team Indoor in Seattle last weekends. After a 4-0 win over Auburn in the first round, the Buckeyes fell to Texas A&M, 4-0, in the quarterfinals and to Michigan, 4-1, in a consolation match.
- The Buckeyes are 5-0 on court five so far this season, with a 5-1 ledger on court four and 4-1 record on court six.
- In doubles, court three is a team-best 5-1.
- Ohio State has won the doubles point in four matches this year.
- Shelly Berznyak is first on the squad with a 5-0 record in dual matches, with Kolie Allen 5-2. Lucia Marzal (4-1) and Irina Cantos Siemers (4-2) both have four victories.
- The doubles tandem of Akanksha Bhan and Cantos Siemers is 3-0 as a pair. Ratliff and Cantos Siemers are 2-2, with Kolie Allen and Kathleen Jones 2-1, along with the duo of Allen and Danielle Willson.
Ohio State vs. Arizona State
- Arizona State has compiled an 8-1 record this season, with its loss to UCF in the first round of ITA Kickoff Weekend in Auburn, Ala. The Sun Devils last played Feb. 8, downing SMU, 5-2, in Tempe, Ariz.
- Against the Sun Devils, the Buckeyes are 6-1 all-time.
- The squads met for six years in a row, with the last match in that stretch a 5-0 Ohio State win in Columbus Feb. 23, 2020.
- The first match was an Arizona State home win in 1990.
- The Buckeyes are 3-0 at home vs. the Sun Devils, including a 6-1 win in 2016 and 4-3 victory in 2018.
- In the ITA rankings, Giulia Morlet is No. 54, Domenika Turkovic is No. 29, Marianna Argyrokastriti is No. 109 and Sedona Gallagher is No. 119. In doubles, the duo of Patricija Spaka and Turkovic is ranked eighth.
Ohio State vs. N.C. State
- NC State is 6-1 this season, with the loss a 4-3 defeat to Vanderbilt in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match in Raleigh. The squad has wins over Illinois, Oklahoma, Tennessee, California and Wake Forest.
- The Buckeyes and Wolfpack met last season, with NC State winning 4-3 on its home courts Jan. 23, 2022. The first meeting was a 7-2 Ohio State victory March 2, 1991 in Raleigh.
- Ranked singles players for NC State include No. 15 Alana Smith, No. 19 Amelia Rajecki, No. 35 and No. 64 Sophie Abrams. The duo of Nell Miller and Fajecki is No. 5 in doubles.
