No. 25 Buckeyes Drop B1G Tournament Match to Northwestern

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, the No. 25-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to Northwestern, 4-0, Friday in Lincoln, Neb. The Buckeyes, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, are now 19-6 this season, while the No. 5 seed Wildcats, ranked 29th, move to 15-9 on the year and advance to face No. 1 seed Michigan in the semifinals.
In Doubles
- Northwestern won the doubles points with victories on courts 1 and 3.
- The Wildcat tandem of Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan defeated Buckeyes Luna Dormet and Shiori Fukuda on court two, 6-1.
- In a matchup of ranked teams on court one, the Ohio State duo of Isabelle Boulais and Danielle Wolf, ranked 84th, defeated No. 62 Clarissa Hand and Lee Or, 6-2. The Ohio State won the first two games of the match and carried the lead throughout.
- The doubles point came down to court three, where Northwestern’s Rheeya Doshi and Inci Ogut defeated Ohio State’s Kolie Allen and Andrea Ballinger, 6-3, winning the final three games.
In Singles
- Northwestern won three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory.
- The Wildcats won back-to-back on courts one and two. On court one, No. 40 Clarissa Hand defeated No. 55 Isabelle Boulais and on court two, Julie Byrne topped No. 93 Shiori Fukuda.
- Caroline Pozo pulled away at the end vs. Luna Dormet on court five for a 6-4, 6-4 victory for the Wildcats’ fourth point.
- The three remaining matches were in third sets when play was halted.
- Both Kolie Allen on court three and Danielle Wolf on court four rallied to win the second set and force a third set, with both leading in the third. On court six, Mary Beth Hurley won her first set before Northwestern tied the match with a second set victory.

The 2019 NCAA Championship field will be announced at 6:30 p.m. Monday on NCAA.com. Ohio State is looking to make the 16th appearance in program history and sixth in a row.
