COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's tennis team will host Michigan State at 1 p.m. Saturday in a Big Ten Conference match. Buckeyes vs. Spartans
- The Buckeyes are 42-15 all-time vs. Michigan State and have won the last 11 matches in the series.
- Against Michigan State last season, Ohio State posted a 4-0 win on the road March 16, 2025. In the match, Ohio State captured the doubles point and Alessia Cau, Luciana Perry and Shelly Bereznyak won in singles for the team victory.
- The last match in East Lansing was a 4-2 Buckeye victory in 2024.
- Last weekend, Michigan State topped Toledo, 4-3, and lost to Dartmouth, 4-2, at home.
- The Buckeyes are ranked second in the ITA rankings for the third week in a row.
- The squad started the season No. 13 and was No. 12 in the second poll, moving to No. 10 Jan. 28.
- Three other Big Ten teams are ranked in the Top 25 - No. 6 USC, No. 8 UCLA and No. 17 Washington.
- The most recent singles and doubles rankings were announced Feb. 19, with two Buckeyes in the Top 4 of the singles rankings.
- Teah Chavez is a personal best No. 2, with Luciana Perry No. 4.
- Chavez is the second Buckeye to be ranked in the Top 2, joining Francesca Di Lorenzo, who was as high as No. 1 in 2016 and '17.
- Perry was No. 3 earlier this month to become the second Buckeye ranked in the Top 3 at the time, along with Di Lorenzo.
- Nao Nishino is No. 44, a personal best, with Audrey Spencer No. 68 and ranked for the first time since the preseason. Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev moved to a personal best No. 87.
- In doubles, the tandem of Hephzibah Oluwadare and Chavez is No. 17 after entering the rankings at No. 13. They were the eighth Buckeye duo to earn a spot in the Top 15.
- Flora Johnson and Perry are No. 36, up from No. 55 last week when they entered the rankings.
- Chavez and Perry have been ranked as a twosome since February 2025 and are currently No. 54.
- Nishino and Spencer are 58th, marking their first time ranked as a team this year. Spencer and Perry are No. 60 and in the rankings as a duo for the first time since 2024 (when they were as high as No. 50).
- Ohio State is 8-1 on the year, with the lone loss to No. 1 ranked Georgia, 4-3, in the ITA Indoor Championship final. The Buckeyes were making their first appearance in the title game at National Indoors.
- Last week, the Buckeyes notched a road win at No. 25 Oklahoma State. The Buckeyes lost the doubles point, but a default at No. 6 singles tied the match at one. Singles wins from Teah Chavez, Audrey Spencer and Luciana Perry sealed Ohio State's victory.
- In dual matches, Teah Chavez and Audrey Spencer lead the Buckeyes with 7-0 ledgers. Spencer has won her last 11 completed matches. Luciana Perry has six dual wins, followed by Nao Nishino with five. Overall, Nishino has a team-best 19 victories this year, Perry has 14 and Chavez and Spencer each have 13.
- As a team, the Buckeyes are 7-0 on court one this spring, with 6-1 marks on courts two and five. Court six is 6-3, court four is 5-2 and court three is 3-5.
- Seven of the nine teams the Buckeyes have faced this season were ranked in the Top 25 at the time of the match. Three were in the Top 5 at the time and remain there this week - No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 North Carolina, and No. 5 Texas A&M.
- Ohio State and Penn State have played the only Big Ten Conference match so far this season across the league.
- The ITA announced Ohio State will serve as a host school for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in both 2027 and 2028. A joint host with Michigan, both schools will host opening rounds of play each year. Michigan will host the semifinals and final in 2027 and Ohio State will host the semifinals and final in 2028. Host schools are automatically in the 16-team tournament field.
- Ohio State will host Michigan at 6 p.m. March 6 in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

- A Spring Break trip to California follows, with a nonconference match at No. 14 Pepperdine March 11 before B1G matches at No. 8 UCLA March 14 and at No. 6 USC March 15.
- Ohio State will then return home to take on Duke March 22, Rutgers March 27 and Maryland March 29.
