COLUMBUS, Ohio – The backdraw of the ITA Women's National Team Indoor Championship set up an early season nonconference match between No. 12 Ohio State and No. 10 Michigan in Chicago. After losing the doubles point, the Buckeyes notched four singles wins – from Shiori Fukuda, Danielle Wolf, Isabelle Boulais and Luna Dormet – to defeat the Wolverines, 4-3. Four of the six singles matches went to three sets and the doubles point was decided with a tiebreaker.
Ohio State is now 4-1 and will close out ITA Indoors Sunday at 7:30 p.m. vs. No. 7 Texas. Michigan is 3-3 on the year. The teams will meet in the regular season March 15 in Columbus.
Quoting Coach Melissa Schaub
"That was a tough match. Everything you would expect in a rivalry match. We had chances at spots, but Michigan doesn't go away and they are great fighters. It was such an inspiring effort from Luna in her first match back. We have another big one tomorrow so we need to make sure we get ourselves ready."
