Buckeyes play at Michigan Wednesday before heading to Nebraska and Iowa
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Ohio State women's tennis team opens a stretch of five consecutive road matches with three this week. Ohio State will play at No. 17 Michigan at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Ann Arbor, Mich., take on Nebraska at 6 p.m. ET Friday in Lincoln, Neb., and play at Iowa at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa.

- Under head coach Melissa Schaub, the Buckeyes are 10-15 against Michigan.
- The teams met in Columbus in a Big Ten match March 6, with Ohio State posting a 4-1 win. The Wolverines took the doubles point, but singles victories from Hephzibah Oluwadare, Teah Chavez, Luciana Perry and Audrey Spencer sealed the Ohio State win.
- In 2024-25, the squads met three times. The Wolverines won a Big Ten match in Ann Arbor, 4-3, March 15, 2025, and a nonconference match in Columbus, 4-1, April 16, 2025. The teams then faced off in the Big Ten Tournament final April 26, 2025 in Ojai, Calif., a 4-3 Ohio State victory. The match marked the fifth consecutive year the teams played in the conference championship match.
- Wednesday is a nonconference match between the teams.
- Michigan, ranked 17th this week, is 10-5 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten. The squad has league wins over Penn State, Nebraska, Iowa, UCLA, USC, Minnesota and Wisconsin, with the loss to Ohio State.
- Three Wolverines are ranked in singles – No. 6 Piper Charney, No. 22 Lily Jones and No. 112 Reese Miller. In doubles, the duo of Jones and Jessica Bernales is No. 37, with Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde ranked 76th.
- Ohio State is 13-7 all-time against Nebraska. The squads last met in Lincoln, Neb., April 14, 2024, a 4-1 Buckeye victory.
- Nebraska is ranked 50th by the ITA this week and the team of Katie Spencer and Conley Raidt is ranked 65th.
- The Huskers are 12-5 overall and 5-3 in league play, with wins over Michigan State, Washington, Oregon, Purdue and Indiana and losses to Illinois, Northwestern and Michigan.
- All-time, Ohio State is 30-13 vs. Iowa.
- The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes met in Columbus Jan. 26 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match, a 4-0 Ohio State victory. The Buckeyes claimed the doubles point and Nao Nishino, Audrey Spencer and Flora Johnson all posted singles wins.
- Last season, the squads faced off in Iowa City April 12, 2024, a 4-1 Buckeye victory.
- Iowa is 9-10 this season and ranked 48th by the ITA this week. In singles, Mia Mack is No. 52 and she joins with Daianne Hayashinda as the No. 49-ranked doubles team.
- In Big Ten play, the Hawkeyes have a 3-5 ledger. Iowa has victories over Northwestern, Illinois and Purdue and losses to Michigan State, Michigan, Oregon, Washington and Indiana.
- The Buckeyes are ranked third in the ITA team rankings this week, their eighth straight week in the Top 4, reaching as high as No. 2
- The squad started the season No. 13 and was No. 12 in the second poll, moving to No. 10 Jan. 28.
- Four other Big Ten teams are ranked in the Top 25 this week - No. 12 USC, No. 17 Michigan, No.18 UCLA and No. 21 Washington.
- In the new singles rankings, Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry remained in the Top 5 at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. It is the fourth straight release Ohio State has had two of the nation's Top 5 ranked singles players.
- Earlier this season, Chavez and Perry became the second and third Buckeyes to earn a spot in the singles Top 3, joining Francesca Di Lorenzo, who was as high as No. 1 in 2016 and '17. Chavez has been as high as No. 2, with Perry reaching No. 3.
- Perry has been in the Top 10 since Dec. 20, 2024 and Chavez has been in the Top 20 since the final rankings of 2025.
- This week, Nao Nishino is ranked 75th and Audrey Spencer is No. 114.
- In doubles, the tandem of Hephzibah Oluwadare and Chavez moved up to No. 13 this week.
- Perry and Chavez are No. 76 in doubles, with Flora Johnson and Perry No. 84.
- Ohio State is 14-3 on the year after 4-0 wins over Rutgers and Maryland at home last weekend.
- The Buckeyes are 6-1 in Big Ten matches, with home wins over Michigan, Michigan State, Rutgers and Maryland and road wins at Penn State and UCLA, with the loss at USC.
- In dual matches, Audrey Spencer is 11-0 to lead the Buckeyes, followed by Teah Chavez who is 10-1, with Luciana Perry 9-2. Spencer has won her last 15 completed matches (8-0 in her last 10).
- Overall, Nao Nishino has a team-best 22 victories this year. Perry and Spencer each have 17 singles victories.
- As a team, the Buckeyes have 11 wins on courts two and four, with 10 victories on court six and nine wins on courts one and five.
- Eleven of the 15 teams the Buckeyes have faced this season were ranked in the Top 25 at the time of the match, including three in the Top 5. This week, five Buckeye opponents are in the Top 10 - No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 9 Virginia and No. 10 NC State.
- In the Big Ten standings, Michigan is 7-1, with Ohio State, Washington and USC all 6-1, followed by Illinois (5-2), Nebraska (5-3) and Wisconsin (5-3).
- The ITA announced Ohio State will serve as a host school for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in both 2027 and 2028. A joint host with Michigan, both schools will host opening rounds of play each year. Michigan will host the semifinals and final in 2027 and Ohio State will host the semifinals and final in 2028. Host schools are automatically in the 16-team tournament field.
- The string of road matches ends next week. Ohio State will play at Purdue at noon April 11 and at Indiana at 2:30 p.m. April 12.
- The Buckeyes will then close the regular season at home against Oregon at 6 p.m. April 17 and Washington at noon April 19.
- Home matches are scheduled to be played outside at the Auer Tennis Complex and admission and parking are free.
- Ohio State will serve as the host of the 2026 Big Ten Tennis Tournament. The Top 12 teams in the final Big Ten standings will compete for the trophy. The Top 4 seeds receive a bye into the quarterfinals. There will be four first round matches April 23, four quarterfinal matches April 24, two semifinals April 25 and the final April 26. Â
