COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State won its final three games of the regular season and head into the Big Ten Tournament on a high. The Buckeyes are the No. 8 seed and will open play either Maryland or Iowa on Thursday at noon. Tip-off for Thursday’s game is noon ET and the game will televised on BTN.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- The Buckeyes are 34-20 all-time in Big Ten Tournament games and 16-8 in their opening game of the tournament.
- This is just the third time Ohio State has been the No. 8 seed. The Buckeyes are 4-2 as the 8-seed, running to the title game in 2003 and then falling in the quarterfinals to top-seeded Michigan State in 2019.
- Ohio State has won four tournament titles, the last of which coming in 2013, and has made nine title game appearances.
- If the Buckeyes do play Iowa, it will be the fourth consecutive year in which the teams have met in the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes won in both 2023 and 2024 and then last year, Iowa ended the Buckeyes season with a 77-70 win in the opening round in Indianapolis. If they do meet Iowa, it will be exactly one year to the date of last year’s game, March 12.
- The Buckeyes opened February with a win at Maryland and then closed February with a loss at Iowa in the lone regular season meetings with each team.
- Ohio State and Maryland have never met in the Big Ten Tournament.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a fun Senior Night victory over Indiana 91-78 on Saturday. Senior Bruce Thornton became the program’s all-time leading scorer in the game as he finished with a game-high 25 points and seven assists. Sophomore John Mobley Jr. and freshman Amare Bynum combined to make five three-pointers and each finished with 18 points.
- Thornton earned his third-consecutive All-Big Ten honor this season, claiming second team accolades. Mobley Jr. was an honorable mention selection by the media.
- Thornton is just six rebounds away from becoming just the second Big Ten player with 2,000 points, 500 assists and 500 rebounds. Talor Battle, who was an assist coach for the Buckeyes last season, hit those milestones while at Penn State from 2008-11.
- Mobley Jr. leads the Big Ten in three-point shooting percentage at 42.4 percent. He has made 89 three-pointers on the season, which is tied for the seventh-most in a single season in program history.
- Junior Devin Royal enters the Big Ten Tournament just 15 points shy of 1,000 for his career. Royal is averaging a career-best 14.0 ppg this season.
