Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State opened the 2026 season last weekend with a 19-3 win over Detroit Mercy. The 19 goals scored were the most in a game for the Buckeyes since their matchup against the Titans in 2023.
- On offense in game one, the Buckeyes were led by Garrett Haas, Alex Marinier and Russell Melendez with four points each.
- Marinier extended his goal streak to five games with a team-high four goals in the season-opener. Melendez and Liam White also added a hat trick. White scored three goals on three shots, making him one of just four players in the country to shoot 100 percent in week one. Overall, seven players tallied their first career goals as Buckeyes.
- Haas recorded two goals and a team-high two assists for his 17th straight game with a point.
- On the defensive end, the Buckeyes held Detroit Mercy scoreless for over 51 minutes and did not allow a goal in the second half. Goalie Caleb Fyock made three saves in his 20th career win. Jack Allen also played in the season-opener, stopping both shots he faced.
- Senior defenseman Cullen Brown earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for his three caused turnover, three ground balls and one assist day vs. the Titans.
- The Buckeye faceoff unit started the season 21-of-26 with Jack Oldman leading the group with 12 wins on 14 attempts. He led the team with nine ground balls against Detroit Mercy. The Pickering, Ontario native's .857 win percentage in game one was the third-best in the country.
- Ohio State was picked 10th in the preseason polls by the USILA and Inside Lacrosse and 11th by USA Lacrosse Magazine. The team was picked third in the Big Ten's preseason coaches' poll.
- Head coach Nick Myers is in his 18th season leading the Scarlet and Gray. In his Ohio State career, he has led the team to a 146-110 record. He is assisted by associate head coach Travis Crane and assistant coaches James Purpura and Justin Tuma.
- Ohio State is 7-0-0 in the all-time series against Cleveland State.
- The teams have met in the first two weeks of the season for the last four seasons in Columbus. Ohio State has played at Cleveland State once in series history, a 13-6 win in 2018.
- In the previous matchup, the Buckeyes defeated the Vikings, 14-4, at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
- Prior to last Sunday, Ohio State's last game inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center was against Cleveland State in 2022.
- Ohio State will play Bellarmine Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The teams will face off at 3 p.m.
