
Ramirez and Pakele Earn Big Ten Weekly Awards

Sophomore David Ramirez and senior Jesse Pakele were recognized on Tuesday for their performances in last weekend’s win against Nebraska.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly men's gymnastics awards on Tuesday. Sophomore David Ramirez was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and senior Jesse Pakele was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week. This is the first time that each of them has earned weekly Big Ten honors. Â

Ramirez contributed four scores to the Buckeyes' team win against the No. 3 Huskers this past weekend. After Ohio State trailed by more than three points going into the final two rotations, Ramirez earned a win on parallel bars – sticking his dismount to earn a score of 13.700. He wrapped up the Buckeyes' comeback by finishing second on high bar (13.600) as the team scored its highest total of the season on high bar. Ramirez also contributed a 13.950 to the Buckeyes' best team score on vault this season and led the Buckeyes on pommel horse. Ramirez nationally ranks fourth on high bar (13.825), eighth on vault (14.100) and 12th on parallel bars (13.450).

Pakele delivered on all three of his routines against the Huskers. Pakele began the day with a win on floor, scoring a season-high 14.000. Pakele's career-high 13.650 on rings was good for second place in the meet. He wrapped up the day with a 13.650 on parallel bars, again finishing as the runner-up. Pakele led the Buckeyes to their best team scores of the season on both floor and rings. Nationally, Pakele ranks fourth on floor (13.925), 12th on parallel bars (13.450) and 13th on rings (13.233).

The Buckeyes are back in action on Saturday in Norman against Oklahoma and Air Force at 7 p.m. ET.
