COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's golf head coach Lisa Strom announced on Monday the promotion of Alejandra Cangrejo to Associate Head Coach, recognizing her exceptional contributions to player development and her leadership towards the sustained success of the program.
“Aleja has been instrumental in our growth — from record-setting performances on the course to the daily development of our student-athletes. This elevation to Associate Head Coach reflects the value she brings to every aspect of our program,” Strom said.
Since joining the program in the summer of 2022, Cangrejo has helped continue the program’s ascent onto the national stage. In her first season, the Buckeyes set eight team program records, claimed a pair of team titles and finished third in the Big Ten Championship.
This past season, Cangrejo and the Buckeyes once again shattered program records by shooting the three lowest rounds in Ohio State history and finishing at an astonishing 45-under par at the Clemson Invitational. Later in the spring, the Buckeyes qualified for the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2018.
Cangrejo has also played a key role in the development of All-American Kary Hollenbaugh, who won a school-record four events in 2024-25. Hollenbaugh has also played in the US Women’s Open and has twice been invited to participate in the Augusta Women’s Amateur.
“It’s an honor to be elevated to Associate Head Coach,” Cangrejo said. “Over the past four years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow and develop alongside our program. I love our student-athletes, I love our culture, and I believe deeply in what we’re building here. I’m grateful to God for placing me in a role where I can impact lives through the game of golf and I’m excited to continue serving our team and pursuing excellence together.”
Cangrejo has brought elite competitive experience from her playing career—first as a national champion at Duke and then on the Symetra Tour. A native of Bogotá, Colombia, she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Duke where she was an honorable mention All-American. She then completed her masters of sports coaching from Ohio State in August of 2024.
