
Buckeyes Claim CCFC Men’s Title, Women Finish Second

Individual championships set for Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's fencing program captured the 2026 Central Collegiate Fencing Conference championship Saturday in Granville, Ohio, while the Buckeye women were the runner-up. The men were 4-0 on the day to win the title and the Buckeye women were 5-1.
The CCFC individual championships will be held Sunday in Granville. The women's competition will begin at 8 a.m., with the men set to start at 12:30 p.m. Follow Along: Watch | Live Results
The men captured their sixth consecutive CCFC title, winning each year since the inaugural season of 2021. It is the third year in a row the men swept all three weapon squad titles. The squad has won men's foil and epee outright for five years in a row and shared the titles in 2021, along with the men's sabre crown in 2021. The women have placed in the top two as a team each year of the CCFC.
The Buckeye Men
The men, ranked fifth, were 4-0 on the day, defeating Detroit Mercy (26-1), Cleveland State (24-3), Lawrence (20-7) and Wayne State (18-9). All three weapon squads were undefeated.
In foil, Mitchell Huth was 7-0, with Lorenzo Mion 6-1 and Mostafa Tahoun 5-1. In men's epee, Jakob Stange won all seven of his bouts and Sami Boumedienne was 7-4. Nowell Gibson had six bout wins. For the sabre squad, Avin Rai was 8-1 on the day, with Samuel Rightler 7-2 and Carter Berrio 5-1.
The Buckeye Women
The No. 7-ranked women were 5-1 in the team championship, with the lone loss to No. 6 Northwestern in the final match of the day, to finish second. The Buckeyes defeated Detroit Mercy (23-4), Lawrence (21-6), Cleveland State (24-3), Denison (23-4) and Wayne State (19-8). The epee and sabre squads were 5-1 to place second, with foil 4-2.
In women's foil, Lira Cannon led the Buckeyes with a 9-2 record while Masha Cojocari was 8-5 and Raiyan Moradi-Bidhendi was 7-4. For the epee squad, Julia Semikin was first with a 9-4 ledger and Sally Fan had a 6-2 mark. Marie-Frederique Millette and Erika Gumagay each had four wins. Varvara Mankova paced sabre with a 10-2 day and Natalia Botello was undefeated in her eight bouts and Grace Fan was 8-2.
