
Eleven Buckeyes to Play for Olympic Medals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's hockey program will have 11 players, four current and seven alumnae, competing for Olympic medals at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. The semifinal round begins Monday, Feb. 16 with medal games set for Thursday, Feb. 19 at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan, Italy.
Buckeye Highlights from Quarterfinal Games
The United States and Sweden face off at 10:40 a.m. ET in the first semifinal game Monday followed by the Canada and Switzerland semifinal at 3:10 p.m. ET. The bronze medal game will be played at 8:40 a.m. ET on Thursday with the gold medal game contested at 1:10 p.m. ET the same day.
Buckeye Highlights from Quarterfinal Games
- Sweden advanced to its first Olympic semifinal since 2014 with a two-goal performance by Hilda Svensson. Svensson, a freshman for the Buckeyes this season and the team's leading scorer, assisted the game-winning goal and scored an empty netter to help Sweden to the upset win over Czechia, 2-0. She is joined on the team by Ohio State teammates Mira Jungåker and Jenna Raunio, with all three playing in their first Olympic games.
- Andrea Braendli ('22) was stellar in goal for Switzerland in its quarterfinal matchup against Finland, making 40 saves for the shut out in the 1-0 win. Switzerland will play for a medal for the third time in four Olympics.
- Hannah Bilka ('24) scored her third goal in two games for the United States in the 6-0 win over host Italy in the quarterfinal round. Joy Dunne, a junior forward for the Buckeyes this season, added an assist. Bilka and Dunne both have five points for Team USA in the tournament. The two players are joined by fellow Buckeye Cayla Barnes ('24) on the United States roster.
- In Canada's 5-1 quarterfinal win against Germany, Sophie Jaques ('23) and Emma Maltais ('23) each recorded a point. Canada's Olympic roster has the most Buckeyes with four, including Jenn Gardiner ('24) and Natalie Spooner ('12).
