COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8/8 Ohio State women's basketball team (22-4, 11-3 B1G) fell to No. 20/17 Maryland (21-6, 9-6 B1G) in the Pink Game on Sunday by a 76-75 margin.

Ohio State jumped out to a 28-15 lead after 10 minutes and a buzzer-beater from Jaloni Cambridge to end the quarter. The Buckeyes led 51-43 at halftime after a back-and-forth second quarter. Maryland used a strong third quarter to cut its deficit to 60-57 at the end of the third quarter. The Terrapins scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter and the Buckeyes battled back but were unable to score on the final possession.

Chance Gray was the first player to reach double figures, doing so in the first quarter along with teammate Jaloni Cambridge. Gray finished with 25 points and J. Cambridge with 29 points as this is the first time this season that two Buckeyes have scored 25 points apiece.

Quarter-by-Quarter Recap

Q1: Maryland opened scoring, but Ohio State responded with the next seven points in the game. Back-to-back three-pointers from Chance Gray and Ava Watson pushed the Buckeyes' lead to 13-3, forcing a Maryland timeout with 6:12 to play in the quarter. The Buckeye defense held the Terrapins without a basket for five minutes. Maryland responded with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-15. J. Cambridge made a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give Ohio State a 28-15 lead at the end of the quarter.
Q2: Ohio State's defense did not allow a Maryland basket for the first 3:12 of the second quarter. Gray's fifth triple of the game gave Ohio State its largest lead of the game thus far as the Buckeyes led by a 38-19 margin. The Buckeyes led by a 46-31 margin going into the locker room after the teams traded three-pointers to end the quarter.
Q3: Maryland began the third quarter with an extended 12-3 run to trim its deficit to 49-43 with six minutes to play in the quarter. The Terrapins were able to get within one at 55-54 with 1:47 to play in the frame following a 9-2 run. Ohio State held a 60-57 lead after 30 minutes.
Q4: The Terrapins scored the first 12 points of the quarter to take a 69-60 lead – their first since the first basket of the game. Gray started the Buckeyes' scoring in the quarter with a driving layup and Kennedy Cambridge cut the Terrapins' lead to 70-67 with a three-pointer with 3:33 to play. A three-pointer from Ava Watson got the Buckeyes within two at 76-74 with 51 seconds remaining. Neither team made its free throws down the stretch and Maryland held on for a 76-75 win.

Game Notes

This is the Buckeyes' eighth game of the season against a ranked opponent and only the second ranked matchup at home.
This is the first game of the season that two Buckeyes have scored at least 25 points apiece. Chance Gray totaled 25 points and Jaloni Cambridge had 29 points today. They were the game's two leading scorers.
Gray scored in double figures for the 19^th time this season, finishing with 25 points. She had 19 points in the first half, shooting 5-of-6 (.833) from long range during that time. This is Gray's fourth 20-point game of the season.
Jaloni Cambridge has scored at least 10 points in all 26 games this season, scoring 29 points today. This is her 15^th game with 20 or more points this season.
Kennedy Cambridge has had at least one steal in every game this season. Her two steals today brings her season total to 106 steals, which ranks second in program history.
