COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's lacrosse team improved to 28-0 all-time in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, and 1-0 on the year, with a 19-3 win over Detroit Mercy in the 2026 season opener Sunday.

Ohio State scored the first four goals of the day and ended the game with a 13-goal scoring run to finish with the most goals scored in a game since its 19-6 win over Detroit Mercy in 2023.

The Buckeyes held Detroit Mercy scoreless for 51:26 in Sunday's game, allowing two goals in the first quarter and just one in the second. Caleb Fyock earned the game one start and win and made three saves. Jack Allen added two saves in 19:36 of work. The team caused 11 of Detroit Mercy's 18 turnovers in the game, led by Cullen Brown with three.

Attackmen Garrett Haas, Alex Marinier and Russell Meledez led the team with four points each. Marinier scored a team-high four goals on the day while Haas tallied a team-best two assists. Ten players recorded a goal with Jack Deliberti, Colin Puckett, Winter Rivera, Jake Struck, Jackson Walsh recording their first career goals.

At the faceoff X, Jack Oldman went 12-for-14 with nine ground balls. Matt Mayfield earned seven faceoff wins in his Buckeye debut and Dylan Furshman and Sean Magtoto each won one. Â

How it Happened
- The Buckeyes started the game on a 4-0 run. The first goal of the season went to sophomore Liam White, who gave Ohio State the 1-0 lead at 13:49 in the first quarter. Garrett Haas added two goals in the stretch and Alex Marinier tallied his first of the game before Detroit Mercy was able get on the board at 6:31.
- The teams traded goals back and forth to end the quarter at 6-2 in favor of the Buckeyes.
- The Titans scored first in the second quarter with a goal at 12:57, but that would be the last goal the Ohio State defense would allow.
- The Buckeyes added four goals in the second quarter, scored by Russell Melendez, Jackson Birtwistle, Marinier and White, to take a 10-3 lead at the half. White and Marinier's goals were their third of the day.
- Melendez was the first to score for the Buckeyes in their third quarter and recorded two goals in the frame for the third Ohio State hat trick of the afternoon. Freshman Jake Struck and junior Jackson Walsh each tallied their first career goals in the quarter to bring the score to 14-3.
- The fourth quarter was highlighted by first career goals for freshmen Jack Deliberti and Winter Rivera and sophomore Colin Puckett add the first goals of their careers.
