
Wisconsin Pulls Away in 2nd Half, Downs Buckeyes 92-82

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin used efficient scoring in the paint and a strong second half to pull away late as the Badgers handed Ohio State a 92–82 loss Saturday afternoon in a Big Ten matchup at the Kohl Center.
Ohio State is now 14–7 overall and 6–5 in Big Ten play, while Wisconsin improves to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in Big Ten play on the season.
Freshman forward Amare Bynum led the Buckeyes with 18 points and seven rebounds, shooting 6-of-12 from the field. Senior guard Bruce Thornton added 17 points, while junior forward Devin Royal also finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Redshirt-sophomore Taison Chatman scored 14 points, making all four of his three-point attempts.
Ohio State opened the game strong, racing out to a 15–4 lead behind early shot-making from Bynum and Chatman. The Buckeyes shot 43.8 percent from three-point range in the first half and entered the locker room trailing just 49–43 after Bynum’s lay-in at the buzzer.
Wisconsin seized control after halftime, stretching the lead to double digits early and never relinquished it, shooting 51.6 percent overall and scoring 42 points in the paint for the game.
Ohio State continued to battle, trimming the margin multiple times in the second half behind baskets from Royal and Thornton, but Wisconsin answered each push with timely scores. The Badgers built their largest lead at 16 points and closed out the game at the free-throw line.
Thornton passed Michael Redd early in the first half to move into sixth place on Ohio State’s all-time scoring list.
Wisconsin was led by John Blackwell, who scored 22 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Nick Boyd added 21 points, while Austin Rapp chipped in 19 points.
