
Buckeyes Pull Away in 2nd Half, Win at Maryland 82-62

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Ohio State used a strong defensive performance and efficient second-half scoring to pull away from Maryland for an 82–62 victory Thursday night at the XFINITY Center.
The Buckeyes improve to 15–7 overall and 7–5 in Big Ten play, while Maryland falls to 8–14 overall and 1–10 in conference play.
Bruce Thornton finished with 17 points and three assists, surpassing the 1,900-point mark for his career early in the first half. Christoph Tilly recorded a team-high 19 points, while John Mobley Jr. added 15 points with five three-pointers. Taison Chatman contributed 10 points and three assists off the bench.
Ohio State built momentum midway through the opening half, using a 6–0 run to take control before extending the lead to 42–30 at the break. Thornton’s jumper with 14:29 remaining in the half marked his 1,900th career point, highlighting a balanced offensive stretch that saw four Buckeyes reach at least six first-half points.
The Buckeyes maintained control after halftime, opening the period with consistent scoring from Thornton, Tilly, and Mobley Jr. A 9–0 Ohio State run midway through the second half pushed the lead past 20 points, and the Buckeyes never allowed Maryland closer than 13 the rest of the way. Ohio State finished with 24 points off turnovers while committing just eight turnovers, helping secure the 20-point road victory.
Maryland was led by Elijah Saunders, who scored 20 points, while Solomon Washington added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Ohio State shot 57.1 percent from the field and 8-of-17 from three-point range, while holding Maryland to 46.9 percent shooting. The Buckeyes also outscored the Terrapins 32–22 in the paint and converted 24 points off turnovers, a key factor in the second-half separation.
