
Three Buckeyes Earn Big Ten Weekly Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three student-athletes from the Ohio State swimming and diving program earned Big Ten weekly awards, announced by the conference on Wednesday. Tyler Read was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week on the men's side. On the women's side, Lena Hentschel was selected as the Big Ten Diver of the Week and Carrie Furbee was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Read won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as the No. 16 Buckeyes (2-1) defeated No. 11 Michigan (5-2), 167-133, on Saturday. Read recorded a score of 378.75 on the 1-meter and scored 374.40 on the 3-meter. Both scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
Against Michigan, Hentschel won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Hentschel, the two-time defending Big Ten champion in the 1-meter, scored a 325.88 in the event at Saturday's meet. She turned in a score of 368.78 on the 3-meter. Both are NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
This is the first career Big Ten weekly award for Furbee. Against the Wolverines, she placed second in the 50 free with a time of 22.33 and second in the 100 fly with a time of 52.63. She was on the second-place 200 medley relay (1:35.96) and 400 free relay (3:12.84) teams. Both are automatic NCAA qualifying times.
The Buckeyes are back in action Jan. 23-24 when they had to Austin, Texas for the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown.
