
Buckeyes Begin Season with OSU Open on Sunday

Ohio State hosts three collegiate teams and additional individuals in a meet to qualify for Winter Cup.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's gymnastics team officially opens the 2026 season on Sunday inside the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes will host Greenville, Illinois, Michigan and additional individuals in the OSU Open – a meet that can qualify gymnasts to compete in the Winter Cup.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on B1G+. All home meets feature free admission and parking.

- Ohio State was picked sixth in the preseason College Gymnastics Association rankings.
- Senior captain Jesse Pakele and sophomore David Ramirez were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch last month. This is Pakele's second consecutive season receiving this honor.
- Pakele is the reigning Big Ten floor champion and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team last season.
- Pakele and senior Justin Ciccone are serving as this season's team captains. Ciccone is a captain for the second consecutive season after being tabbed as a Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree last season.
- The Buckeyes return 14 gymnasts from last year's squad and add two freshmen to the roster – Peyton Contini from Powell and Lukas Ross from Dayton.
- Ohio State returns five gymnasts who earned CGA regular season All-American honors last season – Pakele (floor), Parker Thackston (pommel horse), Ramirez (vault), Drake Andrews (parallel bars) and Kristian Grahovski (high bar).
- Thackston was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week last season on three occasions and earned the weekly honor from the CGA. He also earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team and was an NCAA All-American on pommel horse for his performance at the NCAA Championships.
- Senior Caden Spencer was named Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week last season.
- Tyler Burgess and Ramirez were each named Big Ten Freshman of the Week throughout the course of last season. The pair was joined by Noah Copeland and Conlan Simpkins on the Big Ten All-Freshmen Team at the Big Ten Championships.
