EUGENE, Ore. – Ohio State looks to sweep its West Coast trip as the Buckeyes head to Washington for a Sunday afternoon/evening matchup in Seattle. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed on Peacock and televised on NBCSN. Ted Robinson and Eldridge Recasner will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- This will be the 14th all-time meeting between the schools with Washington leading the series 8-5. This will be the seventh meeting in Seattle with the Huskies winning each of the previous six games.
- The first 11 games in series came between 1938 and 1972. Before last year’s first Big Ten game, the previous meeting was in 2012 in the championship game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Deshaun Thomas scored 31 points to lead Ohio State to a 77-66 victory.
- In last year’s game in Columbus, Ohio State came out red hot and didn’t slow as the Buckeyes rolled to a 93-69 victory. Micah Parrish and John Mobley Jr. each had a game-high 21 points. Mobley made five three-pointers as the Buckeyes made seven of their first nine three-point attempts as a team.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a solid road win at Oregon on Thursday night, using a 21-0 second half run to cruise to a 72-62 victory. Devin Royal led the Buckeyes with his third double-double of the year, posting team highs of 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
- All five Buckeye starters scored in double figures for the third time in the last five games.
- Royal continued his career-long streak of double-figure scoring on Thursday night as he has now scored 10 or more points in each of the last 11 games. He is averaging a career-best 14.1 ppg and tops the team at 5.9 rebounds per contest.
- Bruce Thornton scored just 12 points in the win at Oregon, his second-lowest point total of the season. It was also the first time in nearly two years in which he didn’t have an assist. And it came in a 10-point road win. Thornton has played at al All-American level so far this year, so the chances of him having back-to-back below average games aren’t very high.
- Gabe Cupps came off the bench and scored a season-high nine points on 3-of-4 shooting at Oregon. That was a needed spark with the absence of Brandon Noel.
- Sophomore big man Ivan Njegovan was also effective against Oregon in his increased role with Noel out. While he didn’t score, he grabbed four rebounds and pestered Nate Bittle, as Oregon’s leading scorer was just 5-of-19 shooting.
- Washington returns home having dropped a pair of close games at Indiana and Purdue last week. The Huskies are 9-6 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten with a win at USC on Dec. 6. Hannes Steinbach leads the team in scoring at 18.2 ppg and is the top rebounder in the Big Ten at 11.2 rpg. He also has a Big Ten most nine double-doubles on the year.
