
Nelson Leads Buckeyes at U.S. Championships

Six Buckeyes competed in New Orleans this past weekend.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six Buckeyes competed in the Xfinity U.S. Championships this past weekend in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Drake Andrews, Kristian Grahovski, Jesse Pakele and David Ramirez all took part in the all-around competition, while Kameron Nelson (FX, SR, VT, HB) and Parker Thackston (PH) competed as event specialists.

- Nelson led the way, earning a spot on the Senior Men's National Team. He also secured a spot on the Senior Men's World Championships Team, with the championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia, Oct. 19-25. Nelson finished second on both floor exercise, with a 29.952 total for the two days, and vault, with a 29.120. Nelson also was 10th on rings (26.450).
- Thackston was sixth on pommel horse. He had a 13.955 and a 13.350 in the event.
- Ramirez was 11th in the all-around (156.350), posting a 78.550 on day one and a 77.800 on day two. His best event finish was 13th on rings (26.050).
- Andrews followed in 12th place in the all-around after totaling 154.950, with a 78.150 in the opening round and 76.800 in the finals. His meet was highlighted by an 11th place finish on high bar (26.700).
- Grahovski ended the meet in 14th in the all-around (154.550). He had a 76.150 on day one and improved to a 78.400 on the final day. His 26.750 on high bar was good for ninth place.
- Pakele was 19th in the all-around (152.050). After a 74.100 on day one, he closed with a 77.950 in the final. His meet was highlighted by a 14th place finish on floor (26.900), posting a 13.450 each day.
