
Chavez Selected ITA Midwest Region Most Improved Player

Sophomore was an All-American in 2024-25
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Teah Chavez, who recently completed her sophomore season with the Ohio State women's tennis team, has been selected the ITA Midwest Region Most Improved Player, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday.
As a freshman, Chavez played courts four and five with an for an 8-9 dual record and a 19-16 ledger overall. In doubles, she was on courts two and three, posting a 4-6 dual mark, and was 14-11 overall. She was not ranked in singles, and moved into the doubles rankings late in the season, reaching a high of No. 59, but did not end the campaign ranked.
After an outstanding offseason of work, Chavez had a breakout season as a sophomore en route to unanimous First Team All-Big Ten and All-America honors. She is currently ranked No. 22 (a season high) in singles and No. 22 in doubles, reaching as high as No. 10. She entered the singles rankings for the first time Feb. 5 at No. 55 and had a steady climb, ending the year a career-best No. 18. In doubles, she and Luciana Perry wrapped up the year ranked 24th. The duo, ranked for the first time Feb. 20 at No. 41, moved as high as No. 10 April 1.Â
In 2024-25, Chavez played courts one and two, with a 13-2 dual record, and she was 26-9 overall. In doubles, she notched a 16-7 ledger in dual play and was 21-15 overall. She was a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week and her win on court one helped the Buckeyes to a 4-3 victory over Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament final. She played court one throughout the postseason and picked up two NCAA victories in both singles and in doubles. The Buckeyes earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and finished the year 23-4 and ranked sixth.
Chavez is the first Buckeye to earn the ITA Midwest Region Most Improved Player award.
