CHICAGO, Ill. – The Ohio State baseball team (11-34, 3-22 Big Ten) was defeated by Northwestern (22-24, 11-14 Big Ten), 12-2, in seven innings at Wrigley Field on Friday night.

- In the top of the first with one out, Matthew Graveline drew a walk. Tyler Pettorini was then walked and Mason Eckelman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. All three runners, however, were stranded.
- Northwestern got on the board first, taking a 6-0 lead after a three-RBI double, a two-RBI double and an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning.
- Pettorini had the first hit of the game for the Buckeyes with a single to right field in the top of the third inning.
- An RBI single for the Wildcats in the bottom of the third added to their lead, 7-0.
- Sal Mineo led off with a single to shallow center field in the top of the fifth. Reggie Bussey then reached base on a Northwestern error. Trey Lipsey was next up to bat, and he singled through the right side, scoring Mineo to put the Buckeyes on the board. Bussey scored on a sac fly from Graveline to cut the Wildcat lead to five, 7-2.
- Northwestern plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth innings to extend its lead over the Buckeyes, 10-2.
- Bussey was walked to lead off the top of the seventh, but there was nothing else doing for the Buckeyes.
- A two-RBI single for the Wildcats in the bottom of the seventh inning earned them the 12-2 run-rule win.
- Lipsey, Pettorini and Mineo each had one hit and Lipsey and Graveline each batted in one run.
- Drew Erdmann (0-8) took the loss. He struck out one and gave up six runs on four hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
- Sahil Patel struck out a career-high six in 4.0 innings of relief. He allowed four runs on four hits.
- The Buckeyes and Wildcats continue their series at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park Saturday, May 10-Sunday, May 11. Both games will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT/2:00 p.m. ET.
