
Buckeyes Will Cap the Season at National Golf Invitational This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team has been selected to compete in the National Golf Invitational this week at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. The 54-hole event will run from May 16-18.
- The National Golf Invitational (NGI) was created in 2022 and is essentially the NIT of collegiate golf.
- Ohio State’s lineup will consist of sophomores Joe Wilson IV, Tyler Sabo and Jack Vojtko as well as freshmen Vaughn Harber and Timotej Formanek.
- With such a young lineup, this NGI offers the Buckeyes another opportunity at postseason experience. The event will also offer a first look at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, which is hosting an NCAA Regional next season.
- The Buckeyes played some of their best golf over the final three weeks of the season. They won both the Buckeye Classic at the Columbus Country Club and the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at the OSU Golf Club to finish the regular season and then finished fifth in the 18-team field at the Big Ten Championship.
- Individually, Tyler Sabo led the Buckeyes at the Big Ten Tournament. He shot rounds of 69-69-72 to finish in a tie for seventh at even par. On the year, he also tops the team with a 73.13 scoring average.
- Harber is just two shots behind Sabo on the year with a 73.19 average. He has three Top 20 finishes, including back-to-back Top 10s at the Buckeye Classic and the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
- Wilson IV has also played all 11 stroke play events has an average of 73.26. He is second on the team with four Top 20 finishes and has 10 rounds at par or better.
- Formanek has had a nice first season in the states, averaging 73.41 over nine stroke play events and posting three Top 20 finishes. He was fourth at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate and has played his best golf over the last three events.
- Vojtko won the East Lake Cup in the fall with a round of 64 and has four Top 20 finishes this season. He has 11 rounds at par or better is tops the team with seven eagles.
