
Ohio State Drops Back-and-Forth Game to USC

Game Recap
- The Trojans got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Buckeyes after a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.
- An RBI single from USC in the bottom of the second inning put the Trojans ahead of Ohio State, 2-0.
- In the top of the third, Reggie Bussey reached second base on a USC error to lead off the inning, followed by a single from Maddix Simpson to put runners on the corners. Trey Lipsey was hit by a pitch next to load the bases. An RBI groundout from Tyler Pettorini sent Bussey home to cut the Trojan lead in half, 2-1.
- With one out in the top of the fourth, Matthew Graveline reached on a USC error and Nick Giamarusti walked. With two outs, Simpson singled through the left side to send a run home, followed by a single up the middle from Lipsey to plate another run and give the Buckeyes their first lead of the day, 3-2.
- USC tied the score, 3-3, in the bottom of the fourth after a solo home run.
- Pettorini singled through the left side to lead off the fifth frame, followed by a single from Ryan Miller. Miller would score on a USC error to put Ohio State back ahead, 4-3.
- With one out on the board in the top of the sixth, Lipsey tripled to right center. He was scored by a sac fly from Lee Ellis to put Ohio State in front by two, 5-3.
- USC reclaimed the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the seventh inning after a two-run home run and a score on a Buckeye error.
- Bussey hit an infield single to lead off the eighth inning for the Buckeyes. Simpson was up next, and he drew a walk. Lipsey then stepped up to the plate and he went yard, sending three runs across to give the Buckeyes the lead, 8-7. Ellis, who reached base after a single, would score on a wild pitch to put Ohio State ahead by two, 9-7.
- USC once again got back in top in the bottom of the eighth, taking a 12-9 lead over the Buckeyes after a two-RBI double, an RBI triple and a two-run home run.
- In the top of the ninth with one out, pinch hitter Will Carpenter singled through the left side. Lipsey then walked to put two runners on. The Trojans, however, got the final two outs to earn the 12-9 win.
- Lipsey and Mason Eckelman led the team in hits with three each. It is a career-high for Eckelman. Simpson added a career-high two hits.
- Lipsey led the team in RBIs with four.
- Giamarusti had a team-high two stolen bases.
- Douglas Bauer fanned three in a 1.2-inning relief appearance.
- Blaine Wynk (1-2) took the loss. He gave up three runs on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
- The Buckeyes and Trojans wrap up their series on Sunday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. PT/4:00 p.m. ET.
