Buckeyes Conclude Weekend with Three Wins and Four PR Breaks

Ohio State competed at the Drake Relays and the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Open.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes closed the weekend's competition on Saturday, having competed at the Drake Relays and the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Open, hosted by the University of Louisville, this weekend. In total, Ohio State athletes collected three wins and broke four personal records.
Leah Bertrand, Fatouma Conde, Bobbi Olive and Olivia Powell all contributed to the winning women's 4x100m relay team at the Drake Relays, finishing in 43.91 seconds. Also at the Drake Relays, Sophie Fong won the women's pole vault with a clearance of 4.07m/13'4.25". Tanner Watson won the men's discus invite (57.35m/188'2") at Louisville.
Ohio State individuals also broke four personal records. Sophie Bidwell threw for a personal-best distance of 56.03m/183'10" in Louisville on Friday to finish third in the women's hammer throw, surpassing her previous PR of 54.60m/179'2". Bidwell then set a new discus PR of 45.90m/157'2", good for sixth place on Saturday. Powell finished eighth in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.45, setting a new PR (previously 1:00.72). Lawson Maag set a new men's hammer throw PR of 49.66m/162'11", having improved more than two meters from his old record.

- Women's shuttle hurdles: Ohio State finished third with a time of 56.98 seconds.
- Women's distance medley relay: Katie Castelli, Amelia Figler, Carina Napoleon and Aniya Mosley placed sixth (11:27.76).
- Men's 100m: Nazzio John had the second-best time of 10.54 seconds and Nick Biega finished seventh with a time of 12.70 seconds.
- Men's 110m hurdles: Braxton Brann had the fourth-fastest time of 13.92 seconds.
- Women's sprint medley relay: A team consisting of Bertrand, Conde, Avery Clark and Callia Harris finished 11th with a time of 4:03.14.
- Women's 4x100m relay: Bertrand, Conde, Olive and Powell all contributed to the winning relay team, finishing in 43.91 seconds.
- Women's 4x400m relay: Conde, Michaela McCall, Powell and Mosley collectively finished sixth (3:40.94).
- Men's 4x400m relay: Ohio State (Biega, Brann, Marcus Brown and Noah Carmichael) had the third-fastest time of 3:05.82.
Friday, April 25
- Women's 100m hurdles: Katie Ruffener finished 13th with a time of 13.99 seconds. Powell (14.10) and Janela Spencer (14.17) also competed for the Buckeyes.
- Men's 110m hurdles: Brann recorded the third-best time of 13.67 seconds, qualifying for the next round.
- Women's 4x100m relay: A team made of Bertrand, Conde, Olive and Powell finished third with a qualifying time of 44.77 seconds.
- Women's 800m: Mosley ran the fourth-best time of 2:06.98.
- Men's 800m: Alex Kenish finished seventh with a time of 1:52.34.
- Men's 100m: Every single competing Buckeye qualified for the next round. Ohio State's entries included John (second, 10.28), Biega (sixth, 10.47) and Brown (eighth, 10.47).
- Women's 400m hurdles: Powell finished eighth with a time of 1:00.45, besting her previous PR (1:00.72).
- Women's 4x800m relay: Ohio State's team of Lilly Eckels, Mosley, Carina Napoleon and Amelia Figler finished fifth with a time of 8:43.08.
- Women's 4x200m relay: Bertrand, Conde, Ruffener and Spencer recorded a time of 1:38.50.

Saturday, April 26
- Men's pole vault: Daniel Edwards cleared 4.87m/15'11.75" on his first attempt, placing third.
- Men's javelin throw: Braden Wakey finished 17th with a best throw of 52.06m/170'9".
- Women's high jump championship: Amaya Ugarte cleared 1.82m/5'11.5", placing fourth overall.
- Men's long jump championship: DJ Fillmore finished second after recording a distance of 7.38m/24'2.5".
Friday, April 25
- Women's pole vault: Fong won the event with a clearance of 4.07m/13'4.25". Nicole Grimes tied for seventh place, matching the third best clearance of 3.82m/12'6.25".
- Men's high jump: Devin Jordan finished ninth overall, tying for the fourth-best clearance of 2.03m/6'8". Sean Kaminski tied for 11th, clearing 1.98m/6'6".
- Women's long jump championship: In the women's long jump championship, Sydnee Burr was the runner-up (5.99m/19'8").

Saturday, April 26
- Women's discus invite: Morgan Hallett finished fourth with her top throw being 48.32m/158'6" and Bidwell set a new PR of 45.90m/157'2" for sixth place.
- Men's discus invite A: Watson won the event (57.35m/188'2") and Jack Knapke placed ninth (49.60m/162'8").
- Men's discus: Maag's best throw of 45.19m/148'3" earned him 11th place.
Friday, April 25
- Women's hammer throw: Lacey Stringer finished as the event's runner-up with a season-best throw of 59.43m / 194'11". Bidwell's PR (56.03m / 183'10") placed her third in the competition. Hallett also competed with a best throw of 48.69m / 159'9".
- Men's shot put: Dylan Chittum placed ninth with a throw of 14.91m/48'11" and Michael Lunsford threw the 11th best distance of 14.67m/48'1.75".
- Men's hammer throw: Maag set a new PR of 49.66m/162'11", having improved more than two meters from his old record.
- Women's shot put invite: Stringer finished third, throwing 15.84m/51'11.75".
