Chavez and Perry named to first team, Nishino an all-freshman selection
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomores Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry of the Ohio State women's tennis team were both unanimous selections to the All-Big Ten First Team, while Nao Nishino earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Sophomore Alessia Cau received the B1G Sportsmanship Award for Ohio State.

Chavez and Perry are two of just three unanimous selections among the 24 players on the B1G first and second teams. The honorees were selected by the 18 league coaches. Perry is now a two-time All-Big Ten choice, the 12th Buckeye to earn multiple first team all-conference honors. This is the first year an all-freshman team has been recognized.

Perry, from Export, Pa., earned All-America honors in the fall after reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship. This spring in singles, she is 14-3 in dual matches and she was 9-1 in B1G play, all on courts one and two. In doubles, she is 13-6 and was 8-4 in the league. Overall, Perry, who claimed the ITA Midwest Regional singles title in the fall, is 28-7 on the year and 18-12 in doubles. She has been ranked in the Top 25 all season and is currently 10th in singles, while she and Chavez are currently ranked 19th in doubles.

Chavez, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, has posted a 10-1 dual mark in singles and was 5-0 in B1G play, all on courts one and two. In doubles, she has notched a 12-5 dual record, with a 7-3 league mark. Overall this season, Chavez is 23-8 in singles and 17-13 in doubles. Chavez moved into the national singles rankings in February and is currently No. 30.

A native of Tokyo, Japan, Nishino is 12-2 in dual matches and was 6-2 in Big Ten play in her first collegiate season, playing on courts two through five, including a 7-1 mark on court four. In doubles, Nishino has posted a 14-2 dual record and she had a team-best 9-2 mark in B1G outings. Overall in 2024-25, Nishino is 24-7 in singles and 23-7 in doubles to lead the team in doubles victories. She has been ranked as high as No. 86 in singles.

Cau, a sophomore from Vancouver, British Columbia, was 3-0 in dual play in singles this spring, all in Big Ten matches, and has a 16-7 overall mark in singles. In doubles, she has nine victories overall, including a dual win. She earned her first career doubles ranking this spring at No. 63.

The No. 9-ranked Buckeyes are the No. 2 seed in this week's Big Ten Tournament in Ojai, Calif., and will start play at 6 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals against the winner of a match between No. 7 seed Illinois and No. 10 Northwestern. The match winner will advance to the semifinals, set for 6 p.m. ET Friday and the tournament final is slated for 8 p.m. ET Saturday. B1G Tournament Central
