Ohio State tops Michigan 4-3 and 7-4 on Friday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A pair of sellout crowds on Friday at Buckeye Field were treated to a pair of dramatic wins, as Ohio State (36-10-1, 10-5 Big Ten) came from behind in both games to secure a doubleheader sweep over Michigan (31-14, 9-6 Big Ten) by scores of 4-3 and 7-4.
Skylar Limon was the hero of the first game, hitting a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning and then making a game-saving catch in center field to secure the win. In the second game, Ohio State overcame a 4-0 fifth-inning deficit and won the game on a walk-off three-run home run by Hadley Parisien in the bottom of the seventh.
The Buckeyes chipped away at the Wolverine lead in the nightcap thanks to a flurry of home runs, including one off the bat of Jasmyn Burns. Her no-doubter in the sixth inning was her 21st of the season, which established a new single-season program record.
Game One – Ohio State 4, Michigan 3
- In a game that was largely a pitchers dual, Michigan struck first with runs in the top of the third inning – a sac fly – and fourth – a run-scoring double – to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Buckeyes' first hit of the game was a big one, as Kaitlyn Farley connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
- The Wolverines answered with a homer of their own in the top of the fifth to re-take the lead, but that just set the stage for Limon's late-game heroics.
- After Morgan Frye worked a one-out walk, Limon sent a two-run home run over the left field fence and gave Ohio State its first lead of the day at 4-3.
- In the top of the seventh, her defense in center field on a diving catch at the wall was the first out of the inning. Two batters later, Lorin Boutte struck out Madi Ramey for the final out of the game.
Game Two – Ohio State 7, Michigan 4
- All of Michigan's scoring came in the fifth inning, as the Wolverines plated four runs on a two-run home run by Jenissa Conway and RBI singles from Lilly Vallimont and Maddie Erickson.
- Just like in the first game, Limon sparked the offense and started Ohio State's comeback in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run over the right field fence.
- The Buckeyes then cut into the lead even further in the bottom half of the sixth inning, starting with Burns' record-breaking home run. The sophomore catcher also has 65 RBI on the season, which is just one away from tying Stacy Roth's single-season record of 66 set in 2002.
- Later in the sixth inning, Farley's two-run home run tied the game at 4-all. Her blast came with two outs after an error kept the inning alive.
- After Michigan was retired in order in the top of the seventh, the stage was set for a dramatic walk-off. Ohio State's first two batters of the inning reached base – a Limon single and fielder's choice plus UM error – brought Parisien to the plate. She took the first pitch of her at-bat over the left center field wall to send nearly 1,500 Buckeye fans home happy.
Buckeye This and That
- Limon, Farley and Burns combined to drive in seven the 10 runs that Ohio State scored on Friday.
- Limon and Farley each had two home runs as the Buckeyes hit six on the day to bring their season total to 115.
- Parisien's home run in the seventh inning of game two was her lone hit on the day. It was also her 16th round-tripper of the season.
- Boutte was the winning pitcher in the first game, upping her record to 16-7 on the season. Kay picked up the win in the night cap, going 6.1 innings and striking out three.
- Ohio State has now won four consecutive games over Michigan at Buckeye Field, dating back to the last series between the two conference rivals in Columbus in 2023.
