COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State men’s tennis team has lived atop of the Big Ten and this year is no exception as the Buckeyes clinched a share of their 19th consecutive Big Ten title following a 4-0 sweep of Northwestern in Evanston.
The Buckeyes are now 22-2 on the year and 11-0 in Big Ten play. They will look to complete a perfect Big Ten regular season when they host Indiana and Purdue next Friday and Sunday.
Sunday’s win also kept another streak going as the Buckeyes have beaten Northwestern 24 consecutive times and improve to 28-1 against the Wildcats since 2000.
Doubles
- The Buckeyes got out quick on all three courts and rolled to a pair of easy victories.
- Alex Fuchs and Alexander Bernard got the first win as they beat Max Bengtsson and Saiprakash Goli 6-2 on court three.
- Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin have been great this year and they would provide the clinching point on Sunday, beating Greyson Casey and Vincent Yang 6-3 on court two.
Singles
- The Buckeyes rolled the double momentum into singles and won all six opening sets. Then it turned into a race to see who could finish their matches first.
- Will Jansen beat Casey 6-0 in the first set and then won 6-3 in the second to push the lead to 2-0/
- Filin completed a great day with his second win, beating Yang 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Filin is now 7-2 on the year and 2-0 in Big Ten singles matches.
- The clinching point fittingly came from Jack Anthrop who has played beautifully this season. He wins his 13th consecutive match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Max Bengtsson and is now 23-4 on the year.
- Aidan Kim was up on Goli on court one 6-3, 4-3 while Alexander Bernard was beating Felix Nordby 7-5, 4-2 when the match was clinched. Preston Stearns was also leading Chad Miller 6-2, 4-3 on court five.
