Ohio State will be back in action Sunday at No. 9 Maryland

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse lost to No. 5 Johns Hopkins, 16-6, in a Big Ten matchup Thursday evening in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The Blue Jays led 5-2 after the first quarter and 7-3 at the half. Ohio State made it a three-goal game (8-5) entering the fourth quarter but Hopkins opened the quarter on a six-goal run to take control.

Ohio State is now 8-5 on the year (1-5 B1G) and the Blue Jays are 10-3 (4-1 B1G).

The Buckeyes will play at No. 9 Maryland at 1 p.m. Sunday before closing out the regular season at home vs. No. 3 Northwestern at 1 p.m. April 19 on Senior Day.

How it Happened

Johns Hopkins scored twice in the first two minutes.
Ohio State tied the game with the next two goals. Brynn Ammerman set up Maeve Simonds, who spun and scored on a bounce shot, at 10:12 and Zoe Coleman converted a free position chance at 7:55.
The Blue Jays moved back ahead at 3:40 and then tallied with 44 and 10 seconds left for a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. Hopkins tallied the first goal of the second quarter for a 6-2 advantage.
The Buckeyes ended the JHU run at four with an Annie Hargraves goal, set up by Sax, at 3:08.
Ava Angello responded for the Blue Jays at 2:39 and JHU led 7-3 at the half.
Three goals were scored in the third quarter for an 8-5 game. Kate Tyack converted for the Buckeyes on a backhand shot at 12:28.
After the Blue Jays scored at 9:06, Sax found Coleman at 2:27 for her second goal of the game.
Johns Hopkins went on a six-goal run to open the fourth quarter, stretching the lead to 14-5 with 5:54 remaining.
A free position goal from Ammerman ended the Blue Jays' streak at 5:02.
Hopkins tallied twice in the final 3:40 for the 16-6 final.
The Buckeyes were outshot, 39-19, in the game. Buckeye goalie Jocelyn Torres made 11 saves and the Blue Jays' goalie made 10 stops.
Ohio State had the advantage in draw controls, 14-10. Abby Boyle recorded six and Emily Magalotti and Hargraves each had three.
Torres was first for the Buckeyes with four ground balls and Amani Kimball-McKavish had two.
Coleman led the Buckeyes with two goals and Sax posted two assists, with Ammerman notching a goal and an assist for two points. Angello had eight goals and 11 points to lead the Blue Jays.

Ammerman leads the Buckeyes with 37 assists and 49 points and has multiple points in all but one game on the year. She is on a 16-game point streak (15g, 41a, 55p).
