Torres makes 12 saves for Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse fell on the road to No. 9 Maryland, 8-5, Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md. Ohio State is now 8-5 on the year (1-6 B1G) and the Terps are 10-4 (5-1 B1G).

Maryland led 2-1 after the first quarter. The teams were tied late in the second but two Terrapin goals in the final 1:26 sent the teams into halftime with Maryland ahead 5-3. The Buckeyes drew within two at 5:25 of the third but the home team responded with two goals in less than a minute and held an 8-4 lead through 45 minutes. Ohio State notched the only goal of the final stanza for the 8-5 final. Goalie Jocelyn Torres made 12 saves in the Buckeye cage and had a team-best six ground balls. Kate Tyack led Ohio State with two goals and Leah Sax had a goal and an assist.

How it Happened

Maryland scored the game's first two goals – at 9:41 and 8:50.
With just 53 seconds left in the first quarter, Leah Sax put the Buckeyes on the board, scoring on an overhand shot from in front.
Kori Edmondson opened the scoring for the Terps in the second quarter for a 3-1 Maryland lead.
Ohio State responded to tie the game at three-all. At 10:52 Kate Tyack scored short side and Brynn Ammerman tallied from in front off a pass from Sax at 4:51.
Two goals in the final 1:26 of the quarter put Maryland up 5-3 at the half.
The first goal of the third quarter came from Maryland's Edmondson at 7:33.
Tyack converted a free position chance with 5:25 left in the third for a two-goal game (6-4).
Maryland scored twice in less than a minute – at 4:28 and 3:37 - to double its lead and was ahead 8-4 through three quarters.
The Buckeyes shut out Maryland in the fourth quarter, but were able to find the back of the cage just once. Annie Hargraves tallied for the Buckeyes at 5:07.
Ohio State was outshot, 29-16, in the game. Jocelyn Torres made 12 saves in the Buckeye cage, including four stops in both the second and fourth quarters. Maryland's goalie made six saves in the game.
The Buckeyes led in ground balls, 14-8, and the Terrapins controlled the draws, 12-4. Torres was first for Ohio State with six ground balls and Hargraves and Annika Spoor each had two.
On clears, the Buckeyes were a perfect 20-for-20.

Ammerman leads the Buckeyes with 50 points and has a team-high 37 assists. She is on a 17-game point streak (16g, 41a, 56p).
