Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State is the first Big Ten team to three conference wins this season, sitting atop the league standings with a 3-0 record and wins over Penn State (13-9), Rutgers (13-11) and Johns Hopkins (14-10). The record marks the first time since the Big Ten men's lacrosse conference started in 2015 that the Buckeyes have won their first three conference games.
- Ohio State improved to second in the national rankings in both the media and coaches' polls this week. The ranking is the highest in program history. The team has been ranked for the last seven weeks and top 10 for the last five.
- Alex Marinier picked up his fourth Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award after a six goal and seven-point performance in the win over the Blue Jays last week.
- Marinier leads the league with 40 goals, 42 points and 3.33 goals per game. He is just the 15th player in program history to record 40 goals in a single season.
- Senior midfielder Jack McKenna is tied with Marinier for the team lead with 12 points in Big Ten play this season and the pair's 4.00 points per game in league play are tied for first. McKenna led the team with 17 points in conference games last season while Marinier finished second with 14.
- Ohio State has the most double-digit goal scorers in the country entering this weekend's game with eight. In addition to Marinier, the Buckeyes have Garrett Haas (20), Ryan Donnery (17), Ed Shean (14), Shane O'Leary (13), Gannon Matthews (11), Ben Mayer (10) and Jack McKenna (10) scoring in double figures.
- Ohio State boasts an 8.50 goals-against average this season and has held opponents to 10 or fewer goals in eight games this season. The mark ranks top 10 nationally. In goal for the Buckeyes, sophomore Caleb Fyock leads the Big Ten with a 7.13 goals-against average and a save percentage of 63 percent. Fyock averages over 10 saves per game and has made double digit saves in the last five games and in seven games total this season.
- Sophomore face off specialist Jack Oldman is 124-for-238 for a .571 win percentage through 12 games. He is tied for the conference lead with 92 ground balls on the year. His 7.67 ground balls per game are in the top 10 nationally.
- Ohio State has recorded double digit wins for the first time since 2022. Saturday's win at Johns Hopkins was the team's 11th consecutive victory. The last time the team won 11 straight games was 2004.
- Forty-two men's lacrosse players were named 2024-25 Ohio State Scholar Athletes Monday. The recognition is given to Buckeye student-athletes who earn a grade point average of 3.0 or higher through the fall semester. For the complete list of scholar-athletes click HERE.
- Also announced on Monday were the recipients of the 2025 Eugene D. Smith Award. Bobby Van Buren was named the male recipient of the award, which was established in 2024 to honor and recognize Gene Smith for his commitment and dedication to the student-athletes he served for 19 years and is given to a student-athlete who embodies the mission of The Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute by exhibiting the highest level of character and leadership.
- Saturday is the 18th meeting between Ohio State and Maryland in the all-time series.
- The Buckeyes look to earn their first win over the Terrapins since 2018. The last win was a 12-10 victory in College Park, Md.
- Ohio State's lone victory against Maryland in Columbus came in 2017 with the Buckeyes earning an 11-10 overtime win.
- Six of the matchups between the two teams have been decided by one goal, including the last two games.
- Ohio State closes its 2025 regular season at Michigan on Saturday, April 19.
- The Buckeyes and Wolverines face off at 4 p.m. from U-M Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
