COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State will host Big Ten west coast members UCLA and USC this weekend at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center and the Auer Tennis Complex. The Buckeyes will take on the Bruins on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Trojans on Sunday at noon.
Ohio State and UCLA are the lone unbeaten teams in Big Ten play and Friday night’s match will go a long way in determining this year’s Big Ten champion.
Admission and parking are free for all men’s tennis matches.
- The match Friday night will be the 10th all-time meeting between Ohio State and UCLA. The Bruins lead the all-time series 5-4. Eight of the nine previous meetings have been held at neutral sites, and this will be the first time that the Buckeyes will host the Bruins in Columbus.
- UCLA is 8-6 on the year and the only other undefeated team in Big Ten this season. The Bruins are 6-0 in league play and have also won all three of their road matches.
- On Sunday, the Buckeyes will face USC for the 15th time. The all-time series record is split 7-7.
- Ohio State has won the last four meetings with USC, and this will be the fourth consecutive meeting between the teams in Columbus.
- USC is 10-6 overall and 4-2 in Big Ten play. The Trojans are coming into the weekend following a 4-2 win over Oregon last Sunday.
- Ohio State is 18-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a wild weekend in Michigan which saw them drop the doubles point and come back to win both matches against Michigan and Michigan State in 4-3 fashion.
- Three Buckeyes are ranked in the latest ITA singles rankings. Aidan Kim jumps back into the Top 10 at No. 9, while Alexander Bernard is No. 60 and Jack Anthrop at No. 89.
- In doubles, Will Jansen and Bryce Nakashima are ranked No. 73 while Jansen and Aidan Kim are No. 89.
- Freshman Brandon Carpico went 4-0 last week in the two wins over the Wolverines and Spartans. The two singles wins were the first two Big Ten singles wins of his career and he now has a team-best 30-3 doubles record.
- Carpico and fellow freshman Nikita Filin have won 12 consecutive doubles matches and are now 18-2 on the year. Filin also picked up his second Big Ten singles win last Sunday in the victory at Michigan State.
- Jack Anthrop has won nine consecutive singles matches and he is now 16-1 in dual singles matches this spring. His next win will be his 20th overall on the year.
