Buckeyes Win High-Scoring Home Opener Against St. John's

Game Recap
- In the bottom of the first, Trey Lipsey reached base on a St. John's error. He then stole second. With one out, Tyler Pettorini doubled to center field to put two runners into scoring position. Lipsey scored on a wild pitch to give the Buckeyes the first lead of the game, 1-0.
- St. John's got on the board in the top of the third inning, taking a 3-1 lead after an RBI double and two RBI singles.
- A solo home run for the Red Storm in the top of the fourth added to their lead, 4-1.
- Pettorini led off with a single in the bottom of the fourth. A double from Matthew Graveline sent Pettorini home and a single from Mason Eckelman scored Graveline to put the Buckeyes within one run of St. John's, 4-3. Marc Stephens doubled to put both himself and Eckelman into scoring position. A two-RBI single from Nick Giamarusti put Ohio State back in the lead, 5-4.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Lee Ellis hit his first home run at Bill Davis Stadium, driving in two runs to put the Buckeyes up by three, 7-4.
- The Red Storm got back ahead of the Buckeyes, 8-7, in the top of the seventh inning after an RBI double and a two-run home run.
- Lipsey walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, followed by a single from Ellis. With one out, Lipsey and Ellis executed a double steal. A single into center field from Graveline plated Lipsey and Ellis to give the lead back to the Buckeyes, 9-8. A double from Stephens sent Graveline home and gave Ohio State a 10-8 advantage.
- A sac fly and a score on a Buckeye error in the top of the eighth for the Red Storm tied the score, 10-10.
- Designated hitter Zach Freeman drew a walk to start the bottom of the ninth for the Buckeyes. Sal Mineo came in to pinch run, and he advanced to second on a wild pitch. A sac bunt from Reggie Bussey moved Mineo to third and he scored on a single from Lipsey to put the Buckeyes ahead by one, 11-10. Ellis and Pettorini were both hit by pitches to load the bases for Ohio State. Lipsey scored on a wild pitch, giving the Buckeyes a two-run lead, 12-10.
- The Buckeyes held the Red Storm off in the top of the ninth to earn the 12-10 victory in their home opener in a game that was nearly four hours long.
- Lipsey, Ellis, Pettorini, Graveline and Stephens each had two hits.
- Graveline had a team-high three RBIs, while Giamarusti and Ellis each batted in two runs.
- Lipsey led the team in stolen bases with two.
- Hunter Shaw and Sahil Patel each had two strikeouts.
- Gavin Kuzniewski (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory on the mound. He had one strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched.
- Drew Erdmann earned the save. He struck out one in 1.0 inning pitched.
- The Buckeyes host Valparaiso for a three-game series Friday, March 7-Sunday, March 9.
