COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 24 Ohio State women's golf team closed out a record-breaking weekend at the Clemson Invitational by winning the team title on Sunday. Kary Hollenbaugh, the world No. 28-ranked amateur, won the individual title.
The Buckeyes set a tournament record and a program record with a 54-hole score of 819 (-45) to earn the team title. No. 24 Ohio State topped No. 2 Arkansas by 10 strokes. The Buckeyes shot under par in all three rounds, firing a 16-under 272 in round three to tie the lowest 18-hole round in program history, which they set yesterday. The team combined for an impressive 10 rounds in the 60s and all five athletes in the lineup finished under par. The Buckeyes led the 15-team field in par 3 scoring (five-under), par 5 scoring (24-under) and birdies (74).
Hollenbaugh won the individual title with a 54-hole score of 200 (-16), which is also her career-best. She fired an eight-under 64 in round three, which is her career-low and is tied for the second-lowest round in program history. She led the field of 84 players in par 4 scoring; she finished eight-under on par 4s. She was second in birdies with 18. Hollenbaugh has shot a team-best 10 rounds in the 60s this season. This is Hollenbaugh's third title of the spring season; she also claimed the individual titles at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge and the Spartan Suncoast Invitational. Her three victories are tied for second-most in a single season in program history.
Marina Joyce-Moreno earned her career-best finish, placing fourth with a career-best score of 205 (-11). Joyce-Moreno fired a career-low 67 (-5) in the final round of play on Sunday. She shot in the 60s in all three rounds and had 17 birdies. She shot five-under on par 4s and six-under on par 5s, which was in the top five among the field.
Nellie Ong shot a three-under 69 in round three, tying her career-best score, to finish with a career-low 54-hole score of 210 (-6). She shot two out of three rounds in the 60s and she tied for 15th place. Ong was tied for best among the field in par 5 scoring; she shot seven-under on par 5s. She was third in par 3 scoring, shooting three-under. Ong had 14 birdies.
Mandy Song carded an even 72 in the final round and finished tied for 21st place with a career-best total score of 211 (-5). It is her highest collegiate finish. She birdied 13 holes.
Faith Choi tied for 31st place with a 54-hole score of 214 (-2). She shot 74 (+2) on Sunday and finished the tournament with 12 birdies. She shot two under-par rounds.
Kavya Ajjarapu competed as an individual. She shot 78 (+6) in round three and tied for 75th place with a 54-hole score of 227 (+11). She had six birdies.
The Buckeyes close out the regular season April 12-13 when they host the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational at the OSU Scarlet Course.
