No. 3 Buckeyes Comeback Again, Beat Michigan State 4-3

COLUMBUS, Ohio – What a weekend for No. 3 Ohio State. The Buckeyes completed their second-consecutive wild comeback, beating Michigan State 4-3 on the road Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in Big Ten play.
The Buckeyes, who also won 4-3 at Michigan on Friday night, improve to 18-2 overall on the year and stay atop of the Big Ten standings at 7-0.
Winning in 4-3 fashion against the Spartans is rare, but winning overall against MSU isn’t. The Buckeyes have now won 32 consecutive matches against the Spartans, dating back to when Ty Tucker took over the program in 2000.
Just like Friday night, the Buckeyes lost the doubles point. They then dropped the first two singles matches and MSU had all the momentum. Veteran All-American Jack Anthrop then put the first win on the board and that was followed by a pair of wins from freshmen Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin.
Tied at 3-3, the final match on court one would fittingly go to a tiebreaker in the third set and Aidan Kim would outlast No. 5 Ozan Baris 7-4 to clinch yet another thrilling victory.
Doubles
- The Buckeyes dropped the doubles point as MSU won on courts 1 and 3
- Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin continued to roll. They improved to 18-2 on the season with a solid 6-4 win over Max and Mitchell Sheldon on court 2.
Singles
- Michigan State won the first two singles matches to push the lead to 3-0.
- Jack Anthrop got the Buckeyes on the board as he beat No. 81 Matthew Forbes 6-3, 6-4 on court four. The win was his team-leading 19th on the year and his ninth consecutive victory.
- The Buckeyes needed to win the final three matches and all three went to a third set.
- Carpico and Filin, just like they did in doubles, came up with key wins. Both won 6-4 in the third sets of their respective matches on courts five and six and the match was all tied at 3-3.
- In the feature match on court one, Aidan Kim started with a 6-3 victory over No. 5 Ozan Baris in the first set. Baris then evened the match with a 7-5 win in the second. In the third, the two held serve into a tiebreaker. With the team match on the line, Kim jumped ahead first 4-2. He then went up 6-3 and had the serve. Baris fended off one match point but Kim got him first serve in and won the next point to take the tiebreaker 7-4.
