Ohio State is now 12-2 this spring

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 12-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team garnered a home victory, beating No. 24 UCLA, 4-1, Friday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes are now 12-2 on the year, with a 6-1 Big Ten record. The Bruins are now 7-7 (2-3 B1G).

Ohio State clinched the doubles point in a neck-and-neck matchup against UCLA. After falling on court two, a court three victory from the duo of Nao Nishino and Audrey Spencer left the teams even with one match each. No. 15 Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez secured the doubles point after their victory on court one over the Bruins' No. 3-ranked tandem.

No. 8 Luciana Perry took the first singles win followed by No. 96 Audrey Spencer. After the Bruins gained a point on court four, the Buckeyes took the 4-1 victory with a court three win by No. 111 Sydni Ratliff.

How it Happened

The Buckeyes started off play with a doubles loss on court two. Ohio State secured the doubles point after taking the next two courts.
The duo of Nao Nishino and Audrey Spencer finished second with a 6-4 win on court three.
The No. 15-ranked duo Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry prevailed in a nail-biter on court one. The match went to a tiebreaker, where the Buckeyes took control and shut out the UCLA duo, 7-0, for a 7-6 match win to bring the Buckeyes to a 1-0 lead.
To kick off singles, No. 8 Perry brought the score to 2-0 when she beat No. 78 Kimmi Hance 6-4, 6-2 on court two.
On court six, No. 96 Spencer posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Olivia Center, giving the Buckeyes a 3-0 advantage.
The Bruins prevailed on court four after No. 122 Nishino lost 6-3, 6-3 to No. 64 Elise Wagle, bringing the score to 3-1.
The match concluded 4-1 when No. 111 Sydni Ratliff clinched the match on court three against Kate Fakih, 7-5, 6-3.
When play was suspended, No. 35 Chavez lost her first set and Shelly Bereznyak won her first set. Both players were tied in their second sets.

The Schedule Ahead

The Buckeyes play No. 16 Southern California at noon Sunday. They are slated to play outside at the Auer Tennis Center. In the case of inclement weather, the match will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Ohio State has two away matches next weekend. The team will play Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Illinois at 1 p.m. April 6.
Admission and parking are free for all Ohio State home matches.
