Nine Ohio State fencers will compete for national titles
COLUMBUS, Ohio –This week, nine Ohio State fencers will compete in the 2025 NCAA Championships, hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pa.

The Schedule
At the championships, fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round-robin, the Top 4 finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places and non-advancing fencers awarded a tie for third place. An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.

The Buckeyes are tied for fifth with nine qualifiers this season. Columbia and Notre Dame each have 12, Harvard and Princton have 10 and Ohio State joins Penn and St. John's with nine. In all, 144 fencers earned a berth in the national championships. Each program could qualify no more than two fencers per gender in each weapon.

Epee: Gloria Klughardt (Jr., Cracow, Poland) First season of NCAA fencing … placed third at NCAA Regionals and captured CCFC individual title … Second Team All-Midwest Region honoree.
Foil: Alina Lee (Sr., Dublin, Calif.) Making fourth trip to the NCAA Championships … finished 24th last season, placed 18th in 2023 and was 12th in 2022 to earn Honorable Mention All-America accolades … earned Second Team All-Midwest Region honors this year and was a first team selection in 2023 and '24, with an honorable mention nod in 2022 … finished third at 2025 NCAA Regionals, marking fourth Top 5 regional finish.
Sabre: Natalia Botello (So., Mexico) In first season competing for the Buckeyes … silver medalist at NCAA Regionals and earned First Team All-Region honors … won CCFC individual title.

Making first appearance since winning NCAA title and garnering First Team All-America honors as a freshman in 2022 … 2025 Second Team All-Midwest Region honoree; first team selection in 2022 and an honorable mention choice last year … finished fourth at NCAA Regionals and was eighth at CCFC Championships this season.
Miles Weiss (Sr., Houston, Texas) Making second straight NCAA appearance … placed 16th last year at national championships … garnered second Honorable Mention All-Midwest Region honor (2023) and was a first team choice in 2024 … tied for third at CCFC Championships in both 2024 and '25 and was the gold medalist in 2023.

The Schedule
- The men will compete Thursday and Friday, with the women's competition Saturday and Sunday. Three rounds will be held on the first day of each competition, with two more preliminary rounds and the semifinals and finals on day two.
- Thursday and Saturday, epee will start at 9 a.m., with foil beginning at 11 a.m. and sabre at 1:30 p.m.
- All three weapons are slated to start at 9 a.m. Friday and Sunday, with semifinal and championship bouts beginning at 1:30 p.m. The six semifinal bouts will be fenced on one strip, sequentially in order of epee, foil, sabre. Finals bouts will follow the semifinals, in the same order.
- Friday an awards ceremony for the men's individual champions and Top 8 finishers will follow the finals. Sunday the awards ceremony for the women's individual champions and Top 8 finishers and the Top 3 teams will follow the finals.

Ohio State NCAA History
- Ohio State won combined NCAA team titles in 2004, 2008 and 2012 and the men's national crown in 1942.
- Ohio State finished fifth as a team at both the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Championships and was sixth in 2024.
- Buckeyes have claimed 18 individual NCAA titles – five in men's epee, one in women's epee, seven in men's foil, two in women's foil and three in men's sabre.
- In 2024, two Buckeyes reached the semifinals – Dasha Myroniuk (women's foil) and Luca Fioretto (men's sabre).
- Women's championships started in 1982 and the first combined championship was in 1984.
