Buckeyes return home to host No. 21 USC March 23 in B1G game
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 20 Ohio State women's lacrosse team downed San Diego State, 22-8, in the final nonconference game of the regular season Saturday in San Diego, Calif. The Buckeyes led 6-1 after the first quarter and 11-4 at the half. Ohio State extended the lead to 17-8 after 45 minutes and then shut out the Aztecs in the fourth, while scoring five goals, for the 22-8 victory.

Zoe Coleman led the Buckeyes with five goals and seven points and Leah Sax and Kampbell Stone each scored four goals and Makena Harrington had a hat trick and four points. Brynn Ammerman notched four points with a goal and three assists. Annie Hargraves tallied twice, and Emily Magalotti and Kate Tyack each had a goal and an assist. Abby Boyle was first for the Buckeyes with seven draw controls and Magalotti picked up a team-best four ground balls. Joceyln Torres made 10 saves in the Buckeye cage.

The Buckeyes are now 8-0, extending the best start in school history, which had been 6-0 by the 2002 team. San Diego State is 5-4 on the year.

How it Happened
- The teams traded goals to start the game, with Zoe Coleman setting up Leah Sax at 12:11 and SDSU answering at 11:15.
- The Buckeyes scored five times to close out the first quarter for a 6-1 lead through 15 minutes.
- Kampbell Stone put the Buckeyes in the lead at 8:24, followed by a goal from Annie Hargraves, set up by Emily Magalotti, at 7:07.
- In the final 2:59, Ohio State notched three goals, from Sax, Zoe Coleman off an assist from Brynn Ammerman and Stone on a free position chance.
- Stone scored her second in a row 30 seconds into the second quarter for a 7-1 Buckeye lead.
- SDSU'S Bella Tan scored twice around a Makena Harrington goal, for an 8-3 Ohio State advantage and a tally from Nikki Seven at 7:42 drew San Diego State within four (8-4).
- Three goals to close out the half – at 4:08 from Sax, 3:23 from Hargraves and 1:06 by Tyack assisted by Coleman – sent the teams into halftime with the Buckeyes leading 11-4.
- Ammerman converted player-up just 17 seconds into the third quarter before a three-goal run by the Aztecs made it 12-7 at 10:33.
- After the teams traded goals, with Coleman scoring in front off a Tyack pass at 8:03 and SDSU's Frankie Gracia tallying at 7:11, the Buckeyes tallied the next four to push the lead to 17-8.
- Stone recorded her fourth of the day at 6:28, Harrington scored on a free position at 3:22 and then found Coleman for a player-up score at 1:30. Emily Magalotti's free position score with 48 seconds remaining was the final tally of the quarter.
- Ohio State shut out the Aztecs in the fourth quarter, allowing just two shots, while scoring five goals of its own.
- Ammerman set up Coleman and Harrington at 13:29 and 5:04, with Sax scoring in the middle at 10:11. Coleman found the back of the cage with 3:00 remaining and Audrey Rudoph closed out the scoring with her first collegiate goal at 1:26.
- The Buckeyes outshot San Diego State, 44-23, in the game. Jocelyn Torres made 10 saves in 53:27 in the Ohio State cage and Whitney Robinson did not face a shot in the final 6:33. SDSU's goalie made 13 stops.
- Ohio State led in draw controls, 21-11, and ground balls, 20-9. Both teams were perfect on clears – the Buckeyes had 16 chances and the Aztecs had 15.
- Abby Boyle led the Buckeyes with a career-high seven draw controls, Stone and Harrington each had three and Maeve Simonds had two.
- Magalotti was first with four ground balls, followed by Coleman with three.
