
Ohio State Falls Short Against USC in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – The No. 8/8 Ohio State women's basketball team (20-3, 9-3 B1G) fell to No. 7/7 USC (21-2, 11-1 B1G) on Saturday night by an 84-63 margin to wrap up the Los Angeles road trip.
Ohio State grabbed an early lead before USC strung together an extended 10-2 run midway through the first quarter to led by a 14-11 margin after 10 minutes. The Trojans extended their lead to 34-26 at halftime. USC held a 59-45 advantage after 30 minutes after a back-and-forth third quarter. The Trojans capped their win at 84-63 after a high-scoring fourth quarter.
Taylor Thierry was the first Buckeye to reach double figures and finished with 14 points. Jaloni Cambridge (11), Chance Gray (12) and Cotie McMahon (13) joined Thierry in double figures.
How it Happened
Thierry stole the ball for an easy layup to begin the game's scoring. The Buckeyes led by a 7-2 margin before the Trojans tied the game at seven midway through the quarter with their first field goal of the game. USC took its first lead of the game at 10-9 leading into the media timeout. The Trojans led by a 14-11 margin after 10 minutes.
Jaloni Cambridge opened the second quarter's scoring with a layup to get OSU within one at 14-13 before back-to-back USC baskets gave the Trojans an 18-13 lead with seven minutes remaining in the quarter. A three-point play from Thierry and a pair of Petty layups cut the deficit to 23-20 heading into the media timeout. USC made a three-pointer out of the timeout and then got to the line three separate times to extend its lead to 34-24 with 1:15 to play in the half. Thierry rounded out first-half scoring with free throws and the Buckeyes trailed 34-26 going into the locker room.
The Trojans had a 6-4 edge in the first three minutes of the third quarter as USC led by a 40-30 margin. The Buckeyes called timeout trailing 45-32 just a minute later. Ohio State scored the next four points out of the timeout and used an extended 7-2 run to trim the deficit to 47-39 with just under four minutes to play in the quarter. The Buckeyes got as close as seven points but trailed 59-45 after 30 minutes of play.
The fourth quarter began with back-and-forth scoring before back-to-back layups from J. Cambridge and McMahon made the score 66-53 midway through the quarter. USC scored seven of the next eight points to increase its lead to 77-57 with 2:40 to play. Scoring was capped at 84-63 with a McMahon jumper.
