Ohio State improves to 20-8-2 on the year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – With the game's final three goals, the No. 8 Ohio State men's hockey team downed Wisconsin, 4-2, Saturday in Value City Arena to wrap up a sweep of the weekend series. Ohio State led 1-0 after the first period and the teams were tied at two through 40 minutes. Damien Carfagna put the Buckeyes in the lead with three minutes left and Davis Burnside sealed the win with an empty net goal.

The Buckeyes are now 20-8-2 overall, with a 13-6-1 2-2-0 Big Ten ledger, tied with Minnesota for second place (40 points). Wisconsin is 11-18-3 (6-15-1 1-7-0 B1G). Ohio State was 4-0-0 vs. Wisconsin during the regular season, with 2-1 OT and 2-1 wins in Madison, Wis., Oct. 18-19 and 4-1 and 4-2 victories this weekend.

The Buckeyes' Patrick Guzzo tallied at 18:18 of the first and Ohio State carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Two goals from the Badgers in the first 1:35 of the second put Wisconsin in the lead. Buckeye Max Montes, a Wisconsin native, tied the game at 5:50 of the second. The score remained deadlocked until 17:00 of the third when Damien Carfagna tallied, assisted by Davis Burnside. Burnside sealed the win at 19:50 with an empty net goal. The Buckeyes were outshot, 30-20, and goalie Kristoffer Eberly made 28 stops.

The Schedule Ahead
- Ohio State will hit the road for the final time in the regular season, traveling to No. 4/3 Minnesota next weekend. The teams will meet at 8 p.m. ET Friday and at 6 p.m. ET Saturday. B1G+ will stream the games and they can be heard on Ohio State Radio.
- The regular season wraps up with a home series vs. No. 12 Michigan. Puck drop is slated for 8 p.m. Feb. 27 and 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in Value City Arena.
- After a turnover behind the Badger net, Jake Rozzi found Patrick Guzzo for a one-timer in front at 18:18 of the first period.
- Each team had six shots and one power play chance in the opening 20 minutes.
- Ryland Mosley knocked his own rebound out of the air and in just 10 seconds into the second and Ryan Botterill put the Badgers in the lead at 1:35 with a goal from the side of the net.
- With the teams skating 4-on-4, Max Montes scored on a wraparound for the Buckeyes at 5:50, assisted by Dylan Godbout and William Smith, to tie the game.
- The Badgers outshot Ohio State in the middle period, 13-7. Wisconsin had one power play chance.
- Ohio State went on the power play at 7:31 of the third but was unable to convert, with a Montes shot going off the crossbar.
- Damien Carfagna put the Buckeyes in the lead at 17:00 with the teams skating 4x4. He took a pass from Davis Burnside in the Buckeye zone and drove the net, with the puck slipping by the Badger goalie.
- Wisconsin pulled its goalie for the extra attacker with more than a minute remaining but three blocks and a save helped close out the win.
- With time running down, Aiden Hansen-Bukata won the defensive battle and passed to Burnside, whose shot from inside the Ohio State blueline went in the empty net at 19:50.
- Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly stopped all 11 Badger shots on goal in the third and ended the game with 28 saves in 59:32. Ohio State had 20 shots on net, including seven in the third, and Tommy Scarfone had 16 saves in 58:15.
- Ohio State blocked 16 Badger shot attempts, led by Riley Thompson with three.
- Each team was 0-for-2 on the power play in the game.
- Carfagna had a three-point weekend with two assists Friday and a goal Saturday. He has 16 assists and 22 points this season and is on a five-game point streak.
- Hansen-Bukata's assist was his team-best 21st of the year and he now has 22 points. In his collegiate career Hansen-Bukata has 100 points, with 10 goals and 90 assists.
- Burnside is on a four-game point streak and has a career high 28 points, with 11 goals and 17 assists.
- As a team, Ohio State is allowing 2.27 goals a game this year, scoring 3.37 a contest.
- Godbout's assist was his first collegiate point.
- Guzzo had a goal in each game vs. Wisconsin and has an 8-5-13 line this season.
