Hudson first sophomore in program history to earn distinction
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kevin Burch, head coach of the Buckeyes, announced the captains for the 2026 season, Tuesday.
Senior Shane Wetzel and sophomore Drew Hudson will lead Ohio State when the 2026 campaign gets underway in January.
"Drew and Shane have worked extremely hard in their time at Ohio State," Burch said. "They have shown what it takes to win on a daily basis and it's clear they have earned the respect of every guy around them. The leadership they bring will undoubtedly help us move toward our goals for the 2026 season."
Wetzel, an opposite hitter from Lake Mary, Florida, has been a mainstay in the Ohio State lineup with 300 sets played in 84 career matches. He reached 1,000 career kills (1,014) late last season and finished with 399 to lead the Buckeyes a year ago.
Hudson, a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, is the first sophomore to be named captain in program history.
As a freshman, Hudson played in 27 matches from the libero position. He recorded 118 digs and 17 assists.
Ohio State opens the 2026 season Jan. 8 in a home match against Central State (7 p.m./B1G+).
