Teams will meet Thanksgiving weekend in Tempe

- The Ohio State men's hockey team will take on Arizona State this weekend in Mullett Arena in Tempe, Ariz.
- Puck drop is slated for 5 p.m. ET Friday and 7 p.m. ET Saturday.

- Ohio State is 5-7 on the year (1-5 Big Ten) after dropping two games at then-No. 2 Michigan last weekend (2-5, 1-8). Arizona State is 5-8-1 (3-4-1 NCHC) after splitting a series at home against then-No. 3 Denver last weekend (L 1-7, W OT 3-2).
- The Buckeyes are in a stretch of six consecutive road games. The squad played in Big Ten series at Wisconsin and at Michigan before this weekend's series at Arizona State. The next home games are Dec. 4-5 at home and wrap up the 2025 portion of the schedule.
- Buckeye senior captain Davis Burnside, who grew up in the Chicago area, now calls Scottsdale, Ariz., home.
- Ohio State is averaging 3.0 goals a game and allowing 3.08 a night. The power play has converted 20.9 percent of its chances and the penalty kill has stopped 82.4 percent of its opponents' opportunities. The Buckeye squad averages 32.08 shots on goal a game and allows 29.17 per outing, along with averaging 12.42 penalty minutes a game.
- Felix Caron leads the Buckeyes with 11 points, sharing the goal lead with Adam Eisele with five each. Jake Karabela has a team-best nine assists and ranks second with 10 points.
- Kristoffer Eberly has started 11 of 12 games, with a 2.78 goals-against average and .904 save percentage.
- Ohio State is 4-2-2 all-time against Arizona State, with a 2-0-0 ledger in Tempe, Ariz.
- The squads last met in 2020-21, when Arizona State entered a scheduling agreement with the seven Big Ten schools for the season and was scheduled to play four (nonconference) games against each team, all on the road.
- In 2020-21, Ohio State was 1-2-1 vs. the Sun Devils. The squads met in Columbus Dec. 17-18, 2020, with a 4-4 OT tie and 3-2 ASU win. The squads then split a series March 4-5, 2021 to end the regular season, as Ohio State won 8-3 and the Sun Devils posted a 5-0 victory.
- Ohio State opened 2018-19 with a sweep of the Sun Devils in Tempe with 3-2 and 3-0 victories.
- The teams first met in Columbus Jan. 13-14, 2017. The Buckeyes posted a 6-1 win and the teams then tied, 2-2.
- Arizona State is 5-8-1 overall this season, including a 3-4-1 mark at home. The squad opened the year with two home losses against Big Ten team Penn State and defeated B1G school Notre Dame in the Ice Breaker Tournament the following weekend.
- The Sun Devils are scoring 2.79 goals a game and allowing 3.71 per night. The squad is 10th nationally on the power play (.254) and has stopped 82.1 percent of its opponents' power plays.
- ASU's Bennett Schimek is 10th in the NCAA with .93 assists per game and ranks 12th in points per game (1.36). Cruz Lucius is 20th nationally with .64 goals per outing, including five power play tallies.
Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State is in a stretch of six straight road games, with two road Big Ten series (at Wisconsin, at Michigan) before heading to Arizona State Thanksgiving weekend. The series vs. Penn State Oct. 30-31 marked the Buckeyes' last home games until hosting Minnesota Dec. 4-5.
- Twenty-one Buckeyes have posted at least one point this year, with 15 scoring a goal and 20 notching at least one assist.
- Ohio State is averaging 3.0 goals a game, with three or more goals in seven games. The squad was held to a season-low three goals in a series at Michigan last weekend.
- Ohio State ranks 20th in the NCAA with a .516 faceoff winning percentage (391-367). Max Montes leads the Buckeye squad with 105 wins, while Riley Thompson has 86 and Jake Karabela has 84. Among players with more than 20 faceoffs, Montes is first with a .550 winning percentage. At Michigan last weekend, Montes was 24-10 in the series.
- Ohio State is 42-for-51 (.824) on the penalty kill this season. The squad was 6-for-6 in game one at Michigan last weekend before allowing two goals on three chances in game two.
- The Buckeyes are 9-for-43 (.209) with the man advantage through 12 games. Last weekend, Felix Caron scored his team-best third power play goal of the year in game one and junior Thomas Weis tallied his first power play goal since his freshman year in game two. Riley Thompson has two power play goals this year, with Nathan Lewis, Davis Burnside and Ryan Gordon also tallying with the man advantage.
- The first half ends with a home series against Minnesota Dec. 4-5. Faceoff is set for 6:30 p.m. for game one and 6 p.m. for game two and BTN will televise both contests.
- Game one is Peanuts Night and there will be a Peanuts themed Ohio State hockey longsleeve shirt giveaway for the first 500 fans and the first 200 Ohio State students.
- Game two against the Gophers is Holidays and Hockey night, with a Buckeye hockey oven mitt giveaway for the first 2,000 fans. The annual Teddy Bear Toss will be held postgame, with fans encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to throw on the ice. The stuffed animals collected will be delivered to Ronald McDonald House in Columbus. There will also be an ugly sweater contest at the game.
- The Buckeyes will return to action Jan. 2-3 with a home-and-home series against Bowling Green. The teams will meet in Columbus for game one and in Bowling Green for game two.
