
Buckeyes Hit Career Bests in 8-0 Shutout of St. Thomas

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team shut out No. 13 St. Thomas, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena in St. Paul, Minn. The Buckeyes (9-1-0, 7-1-0 WCHA) were led by junior forward Joy Dunne with four goals and six points and freshman goaltender Taylor Kressin, who stopped 20 shots by the Tommies (7-5-0, 2-4-0 WCHA).
The Short Story
Ohio State recorded a goal in the first and third periods and unloaded six in the middle frame to earn its fourth straight win. The team held the Tommies to eight or less shots in each stanza with Kressin saving every one.
The Buckeyes went 7-for-7 on the penalty kill and scored on one of their two power play chances that came in the second period.
At the end of the day, 11 Buckeyes recorded a point, 15 of 17 skaters were on the ice for at least one goal scored and the team held its opponent to 20 or less shots on goal for the eighth time this season.

How it Happened
- In game two it was Ohio State with the 1-0 lead after the first period as Dunne started her career high afternoon with a goal at 15:16. After 20 minutes of play, Kressin faced and stopped five shots by St. Thomas.
- The team came out of the gates firing in the second period, recording six shot attempts in the first three minutes. Dunne scored on the seventh Ohio State shot of the period, opening the Buckeye scoring spree 3:06 into the frame.
- Maxine Cimoroni found the back of the net 23 seconds later and Sanni Vanhanen tallied the Buckeyes' fourth goal of the game 25 seconds after Cimoroni's for three Ohio State goals in 48 seconds on four shots.
- The Tommies held off Ohio State for the next couple of minutes, but Dunne completed her second hat trick of the season with a goal at 7:30.
- The Buckeyes earned a power play at 12:32 in the second period and Dunne scored again for her fourth and final goal of the day to put Ohio State up, 6-0, 38 seconds into the player advantage.
- Sloane Matthews capped off the six-goal period for Ohio State, lighting the lamp at 15:40 in the middle frame. Kressin added seven saves in the period.
- Both teams recorded eight shots on goal in the third period with Sara Swiderski scoring the only goal at 10:12.
- In addition to recording her first career shutout, Kressin made a career-high 20 saves against the Tommies. She is now 3-0-0 on the year with three consecutive wins for the Buckeyes.
- Dunne scored three goals in a period for the second time in three games. Her four goals are the most by a Buckeye in a single game since Jocelyn Amos's four-goal game against Bemidji Stat on Jan. 10.
- Sanni Vanhanen recorded a career high three points on a goal and two assists in Saturday's contest.
- Ohio State improves its unblemished record against St. Thomas to 20-0-0 in the all-time series.
