Blaz Rola
Men's Tennis, 2011-13
Blaz Rola enjoyed one of the best collegiate tennis careers, not just at Ohio State, but in all of college tennis. He is the only Buckeye to win an NCAA Singles Championship, and he also won an NCAA Doubles Championship with partner Chase Buchanan. Rola finished his career with a remarkable 215-29 career singles and doubles record.
In addition to being a two-time national champion, Rola was a four-time ITA All-American and a three-time All-Big Ten selection. As a sophomore in 2011-12, he and Buchanan became the first doubles team in collegiate history to win all three collegiate major doubles titles in the same season. The following season, Rola won the NCAA singles title by breezing through the draw, winning all but one of his six matches in straight sets. He was a combined 50-2 as a junior in 2012-13.
During his three seasons, Rola and the Buckeyes went 103-10, winning three Big Ten regular season titles and three Big Ten Tournament titles. Rola’s 215 combined victories in just three seasons rank 11th in program history.
Rola turned professional in the summer of 2013 and during his career, he made well over $1 million in career earnings and rose into the Top 100 in the world rankings. He won 29 professional singles and doubles titles and represented his home country of Slovenia on the Slovenia Davis Cup team.
