Alex Wimmers
Baseball, 2008-10
Alex Wimmers, a letterwinner on the Ohio State baseball team in 2008-10, is one of the most decorated pitchers in Buckeye history. In 2009, he threw the first nine-inning no-hitter in program history, picking up 14 strikeouts in a victory over Michigan on May 2. He led the Big Ten that year with 136 strikeouts and was named the B1G Co-Pitcher of the Year, along with earning PING! Baseball First Team All-America honors and second or third team All-America honors from five other awarding publications. In 2010, Wimmers went 9-0 on the mound and was selected the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, becoming the first back-to-back honoree in conference history. He was named the 2010 National Pitcher of the Year by the College Baseball Foundation and became just the second Buckeye to win First Team All-America accolades in consecutive seasons.
Wimmers was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the first round of the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft. He was called up by the Twins in 2016 and between 2016 and 2017, appeared in 22 major league games.
