COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State appeared to be the better side for most of the night but couldn't find the equalizer, falling to Illinois 1-0 in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday at Folk Field in West Lafayette, Ind.
Illinois' Lia Howard scored the game's only goal in the 55th minute, giving the Illini the advantage that the Buckeyes could not overcome. Despite holding a 22-10 edge in shots, Ohio State was unable to find the tying goal.
Senior goalkeeper Molly Pritchard made several key saves, keeping Ohio State competitive throughout the match. Defensively, the Buckeyes held their ground at times, but Illinois' Izzy Lee made multiple critical stops to preserve the clean sheet.
Buckeyes will now wait to find out their NCAA tournament fate. The selection show will be Monday, November 10 at 4 PM.
